Players who have won multiple Premier League Golden Glove awards
Seven Premier League Golden Glove winners have received the award on more than one occasion. Wojciech Szczęsny, Edwin van der Sar, Matz Sels, and Thibaut Courtois are the only players to have won the award on a single occasion.
Inevitably, it helps if the goalkeeper is part of one of the best Premier League teams ever, but it’s no coincidence that the players with the most Golden Gloves were also among the best in the world at their position.
Petr Čech, 4
Petr Čech won the inaugural Golden Glove by setting the record for the most clean sheets in a Premier League season with 24. Surrounded by some of the best Premier League players ever, Čech was integral to Chelsea’s title wins in 2004/05 and 2009/10, winning the Golden Glove on both occasions.
Despite a life-threatening skull fracture in 2006, Čech reasserted himself as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet. Along with John Terry, Didier Drogba, and Frank Lampard, he was part of the Chelsea spine that won trophies relentlessly from 2004 until 2012, including a spectacular double-winning season under Carlo Ancelotti in 2009/10.
Čech’s fourth and final Golden Glove came after he’d made the short trip across London to join Arsenal. The Gunners conceded 36 goals in 2015/16 as they finished runners-up to Leicester City.
Joe Hart, 4
Joe Hart, who won the Premier League Golden Glove on a record-equalling four occasions, spent his peak as first-choice for Manchester City and England. Hart won a pair of Premier League titles with City before being dropped by Pep Guardiola as the Spaniard searched for a goalkeeper more comfortable with the ball at their feet.
Hart’s best moments tended to come when he was having to recover to make a second save or when his razor-sharp reflexes were required. For all his limitations as a sweeper-keeper, he pulled off some of the most jaw-dropping saves in Premier League history, including a stunning acrobatic effort against Swansea in 2015.
Pepe Reina, 3
Pepe Reina won the Golden Glove in his first three seasons with Liverpool. Peaking in the 2000s, Reina was before his time in the Premier League, excelling with the ball at his feet and proving very comfortable sweeping behind a high defensive line.
The Spaniard was key to Liverpool’s defensive solidity under Rafael Benitez. While not the most imposing figure, Reina made himself big in one-on-one situations, and often got Liverpool out of trouble with sharp reaction saves.
David Raya, 3
It was briefly speculated that David Raya could set a new record for the most clean sheets in a Premier League season in 2025/26, but the Spaniard had to settle for the Premier League title and his third Golden Glove.
Raya organises Arsenal’s back line and has been remarkably consistent throughout his time in the Premier League. He’s got the instincts and mobility to sweep behind the defensive line when required. Raya might not be recognised alongside the Premier League’s all-time greats yet, but his reputation continues to soar, and he’s arguably been the best all-round goalkeeper of the 2020s.
Ederson, 3
It is impossible to tell the story of Golden Glove winners in the Premier League without Ederson. Guardiola’s Manchester City relied on Ederson’s all-round capabilities as a sweeper-keeper, distributor, and shot-stopper.
City’s era of dominance won’t be remembered for its defensive solidity, yet Ederson’s arrival coincided with the team’s ascension. Guardiola needed a player with Ederson’s skillset for his high-press and high defensive line to be effective. The Brazilian’s distribution was always invaluable to City, giving them 11 outfielders in possession, and often starting productive attacks.
Alisson, 2
Just as Ederson was pivotal for Manchester City, Alisson – along with Virgil van Dijk – cured Liverpool’s long-running defensive woes. Similarly to his compatriot, Alisson was charged with covering a lot of ground to nullify balls in behind.
Alisson wasn’t as accomplished with his feet as Ederson, but he was still mightily effective, whether spreading the ball or springing a counter-attack with a long throw or flat kick. Particularly brilliant in one-on-one situations, Alisson was deservedly named to the FIFPro World XI in 2019 and 2020.
David De Gea, 2
David De Gea’s two Golden Gloves were separated by five years. Signed by Manchester United early in his career, De Gea initially struggled with the physicality of the Premier League at set pieces, and his position in the team was often under threat.
He developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world, however, and produced some of the most astonishing single-game goalkeeping performances in the history of English football. De Gea’s time at Manchester United was an overwhelming success, even when the team struggled, though many fans will remember his high-profile mistakes for years to come.
