Premier League tips: Best bets for Man City v Man Utd

The Manchester derby is often a fiery affair but Alex Hilton expects a one-sided contest when City host rivals United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

City warmed up for this encounter with a 6-2 drubbing of Luton in the FA Cup on Tuesday, and they are just 2/7 to get the better of the Red Devils at the weekend.

United’s recent revival has seen them claw their way to sixth place in the Premier League standings but they are 15/2 to stop City’s title charge having lost 2-1 at home to Fulham in the league last Saturday.

It’s 19/4 that this latest clash ends in a draw, but this fixture hasn’t ended all-square since a 0-0 stalemate in December 2020, and it is hard to see beyond a comfortable home win.

Manchester City to win & over 3.5 goals /
Erling Haaland first goalscorer /
Under 10.5 total corners /

City look too hot to handle

Manchester City’s hammering of Luton during the week stretched their unbeaten run to 18 matches in all competitions, and with 16 of those outings ending in victory, it is difficult to envisage anything other than another win for the reigning Premier League champions.

Pep Guardiola’s side often time their run to perfection and their post-Christmas charge is in full tilt, while recent history points to a home win too.

The Citizens have won five of their last six derby dust-ups with United, and in each of the last six meetings they have scored at least two goals.

United haven’t won at the City stronghold for almost four years and it is hard to see them ending that drought this weekend.

A Manchester City win in a match featuring at least four goals at 11/8 looks a decent bet with Erling Haaland and co hitting their straps at just the right time.

Haaland’s hot streak to continue

City’s 6-2 win over Luton on Tuesday was made all the more impressive by the fact that star striker Erling Haaland bagged five goals, while midfield schemer Kevin de Bruyne contributed with four assists during the FA Cup fifth-round romp.

And the pair can be expected to hog the limelight once again with Haaland fancied to open the scoring at 21/10.

The Norwegian hitman looks to be back up to full speed following an injury layoff that kept him out of action for almost two months over December and January.

But that looks a distant memory now and Haaland has helped himself to eight goals in his last six outings, while his recent record against the Red Devils bodes well for further success.

Haaland scored twice in the 3-0 win over Manchester United earlier this season and he has scored five goals in four outings against their city neighbours.

Keeping clean sheets has been an issue for United, who managed just one blank in their last seven outings, and they could find Haaland too hot to handle on Sunday.

Corner count may stay low

Despite City’s expected dominance, the corner count could stay on the low side at the Etihad. That had often been the case in this fixture and the 5/4 that there are 10 or fewer corners looks another decent bet.

Just two of the last nine meetings have featured more than 10 flag kicks so it may pay to err on the side of a lower count once again.
