5 stats that show why Newcastle could get something out of Man Utd this week

Away day woes may well continue for under-fire van Gaal

A glance at the league table would suggest that both of these teams are performing well enough this season, but there is certainly plenty of pressure on both managers going into this one.

Neither boss is guaranteed to be in their job next season and a win here for either could be a spring board for success.

Man Utd have been uncharacteristically poor on the road and this is something Louis Van Gaal needs to improve upon if his side are to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Here’s 5 stats which seem to suggest Newcastle can get at least a point in a fairly low scoring game:

1) Louis Van Gaal’s side have just one win in their last 6 league away games (over QPR). Newcastle can be backed at 7/4 draw no bet and 4/5 +1 in the handicap.

2) Newcastle have been level at half time in 10 of their 13 home league games this season. That’s more than any other side in the division. By contrast, Man United have an identical record away from home. A draw at half time is priced at 23/20.

3) Papiss Cisse has the best goals to minutes ratio of any striker in the Premier League this season (a goal every 84 minutes). He’s 7/1 to open the scoring and 11/4 to net anytime against the Red Devils.

4) 3 of Newcastle’s last 4 games have finished with under 2.5 goals. The same result here is 3/4.

5) Man Utd have averaged just 1 goal a game in their last 6 away games in the league. Newcastle have scored exactly 1 in 3 of their last 4 league games. A 1-1 draw here is 6/1.
