We've revealed the most popular Christmas markets in North America.

Christmas markets are the beloved holiday tradition that began in medieval Germany and about 3,000 markets pop up in that country alone every year. The good news is that you don’t have to go to Europe to experience magical Christmas markets. Many major US and Canadian cities host their own festive markets, but which are the most loved ones across North America?

To reveal this, online slots site Betway analysed social media posts mentioning Christmas markets in the USA and Canada and the results are in…

The most loved Christmas markets in the USA

Taking the lead is Columbus Circle Holiday Market, located in Central Park. This holiday Market is a favourite of locals and visitors alike. It has a European flair, and the aisles are full of over 100 artisans and designers selling their own unique wares, like special foods, handmade jewellery, art, home goods, and much more.

The European Christmas market in St. Paul, Minnesota comes in second place, which is a traditional German Christmas market that features authentic food, drinks, and gifts.  Market-goers can expect to enjoy a host of outdoor music and other festive entertainment, along with a scavenger hunt and various new activities for kids.

The most popular Christmas markets in Canada

Ranking first amongst Canadians is the Distillery Winter Village; a popular Christmas market in Toronto that features over 70 vendors selling a variety of holiday gifts, food, and drinks. It is located in the heart of the Distillery District and is known for its festive atmosphere. Following closely behind with 30% positive sentiment based on social media is Montreal’s Village de Noel, which is a traditional French-Canadian Christmas market that features authentic food, drinks, and gifts.

With Christmas just around the corner, city squares across the world are taking their sparkliest forms. Few things can get you in the festive mood faster than a turn around a Christmas market, clutching a mulled wine or hot chocolate as you stock up on gifts. But the lovely, local feel of these spaces can be undercut by the carbon emissions spent flying to them.
