Arsenal are favourites to win the title in the Premier League betting and get their defence under way against newly-promoted Coventry City.
The Gunners warmed up for the campaign nicely with a 3-0 Community Shield win over Manchester City on Sunday and are the only one of the favourites in the outright market to come into the season with real stability.
Coventry won’t want to just make up the numbers on opening night, though, having stormed their way to the Championship title under Frank Lampard.
Here are our football betting tips for the 8pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium, producing a 9/1 Bet Builder.
Arsenal v Coventry City tips
Arsenal to win to nil 8/11
Martin Odegaard to score or assist 17/20
Martin Odegaard to have 1+ shot on target 4/7
Jay Da Silva to make 3+ tackles 5/4
Arsenal to win to nil
Arsenal are overwhelming favourites to get the job done here and should achieve it in comfortable fashion.
The Gunners had few scares in that comfortable Man City win and – with the best defensive record in the league in each of the past three seasons – can win again with a clean sheet.
This bet won in 10 of their 19 home games last season – including, crucially, in all three against promoted teams.
It’s hard to look past another easy victory.
Martin Odegaard to score or assist
Odegaard has started the summer in fantastic fashion and looks ready to pull the strings again here.
The Norwegian scored in the Community Shield and boss Mikel Arteta says that he senses “something else in his belly” after he missed so much of last season with injury.
Arsenal could rack up the goals and the attacking midfielder looks set to be amongst it if they do.
Martin Odegaard to have 1+ shot on target
Adding Odegaard to have a shot on target bumps the odds up considerably, even though scoring would automatically see this one land as well.
The reasoning is similar – Odegaard looks set to be a central figure in the Gunners’ attacking play and had two shots on target at the weekend.
A high volume of shots from the hosts ought to see this bet win.
Jay Da Silva to make 3+ tackles
From the Coventry side, betting on Da Silva to make a few tackles makes a lot of sense.
The left-back posted 1.7 tackles per game last season, and that was in a team that was largely dominating in the attacking third.
Noni Madueke is a likely starter here and his dribbling style lends itself to challenges from the opposition full-back, but even if Bukayo Saka takes that spot then he sees enough of the ball to give this bet a good chance.
Arsenal v Coventry City Bet Builder odds
The total bet comes out at 9/1 in the football betting and reflects the dominance Arsenal should enjoy.
Arteta’s side have a fantastic defensive record, have Odegaard in fine form and should hopefully force enough pressure to get the tackles leg over the line as well.
