How many trophies have Arsenal won in their history?
Throughout the club’s history, Arsenal have won a grand total of 46 domestic trophies, but let’s delve a little further into the specifics.
Premier League/First Division
The top tier of English football – the Premier League (or before 1992, the First Division). Since originally reaching the First Division in 1904, Arsenal have gone on to win 13 titles, 3 of which were won in the Premier League era – 1997/98, 2001/02, and 2003/04.
Most notable was the ‘Invincibles’ season of 2003/04, in which Arsenal ended the season as Premier League champions and didn’t lose a single game – 26 wins and 12 draws.
Incidentally, Arsenal have enjoyed top-flight football for well over 100 years, last suffering relegation from the old First Division in 1913. The Gunners ended up being promoted back into the top league for the 1919/20 season and now boast the longest streak of playing in the First Division without being relegated.
FA Cup
Another record held by the Gunners includes having the most FA Cup wins of any English football team at 14.
These wins span across many decades, with the first coming back in 1929/30 and the most recent being 2019/20. Of these numerous triumphs, three of them were also double-winning seasons where the Gunners also won the league title – 1970/71, 1997/98, and 2001/02.
League Cup
While they’ve clinched two of their own League Cup wins in 1986/87 and 1992/93, it’s also worth noting that Arsenal have been the runners-up more than any other club, totalling six times.
Community Shield
With 17 Community Shield (previously the Charity Shield) wins, Arsenal are the second-most successful team in this competition, just behind Manchester United (21). In fact, they’ve won five titles since 2014 alone, including Arsenal’s last trophy coming in the competition.
16 of Arsenal’s Community Shield wins have been outright victories, although they did share one title in 1991 with their biggest rival, Tottenham, due to the match ending in a draw.
What is Arsenal’s record in Europe?
When it comes to European football, Arsenal have won one trophy – the European Cup Winners Cup in 1994. They have also appeared in three major finals, including twice in the Europa League (formally known as the UEFA Cup) and once in the Champions League.
Back in 2000, they went up against Galatasaray in the UEFA Cup Final, where they just lost out on penalties after a 0-0 draw. Their next appearance in a major European final was against Barcelona in a clash for the 2006 Champions League title, which finished 2-1 to Barcelona thanks to a late comeback.
As for their most recent appearance, the 2019 Europa League final was a London derby as Arsenal went up against rivals Chelsea, who won 4-1.
Which have been the most successful eras in Arsenal trophy history?
There have been three eras in Arsenal’s history where they have been hugely successful. They are:
The 1930s (12 trophies)
Taking things all the way back to the 1930s, Arsenal truly dominated English football with 12 trophies from this decade alone, including five First Division victories, two FA Cups, and five Charity Shields.
Three of their First Division wins were in consecutive years (1932/33, 1933/34, and 1934/35), along with two separate back-to-back Charity Shield wins in 1930 and 1931, and 1933 and 1934.
The 1990s (9 trophies)
Arsenal won a number of trophies in the years since the 1930s – aside from a decade-long drought in the 1960s – but things didn’t really take off to the same degree again until the 1990s.
Trophies won by the Gunners during this era included two top flight-titles (one First Division and one Premier League), two FA Cups, one EFL Cup, three Charity Shields, and the Cup Winners’ Cup.
This was also a particularly significant period as Arsene Wenger took the reins as manager in 1996.
The 2000s (7 trophies)
Following immediately on from the ’90s, the 2000s were another particularly fruitful decade for Arsenal in which they secured six trophies. During this time, their achievements included two Premier League titles, three FA Cup wins, two Community Shields, and reaching the final of the Champions League. The 2003/04 season was arguably the most famous in Arsenal’s history, as the legendary Invincibles team completed an unbeaten league campaign.
