A closer look at the favourites for the Premier League top scorer award
Erling Haaland
A man that needs no introduction, Erling Haaland is automatically up there with the favourites to win the Premier League Golden Boot. Ever since he broke the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season in his debut campaign, he’s been a goalscoring machine for Manchester City.
Since he joined the league in 2022, he has never scored less than 22 goals – most recently netting on 27 occasions in the 2025/26 season. With numbers like these, he’s been able to win the award three out of a possible four times and will be looking to add to that number again.
Under new manager Enzo Maresca, can the Norwegian striker claim a fourth Golden Boot and tie Mo Salah and Thierry Henry for the record-most?
Alexander Isak
Despite not hitting the same heights at Liverpool as he did at Newcastle, Alexander Isak is still one of the best strikers in the Premier League. The Swedish number nine is yet to win the award, but has put together some impressive goalscoring campaigns to date. His debut season in the Premier League saw him score 21 times, before he improved the following year and netted on 23 occasions.
After facing injuries in his first season at Liverpool, his form suffered. Now, though, he’s fit and ready to go again. With a fresh start under new manager Andoni Iraola and a whole season ahead of him, who knows how many goals Isak can score in the 2026/27 campaign?
Morgan Rogers
Following a strong season for Aston Villa, Morgan Rogers earned a mega-money move to Chelsea this summer. With a big price tag came massive expectation, and Rogers has hit the ground running in West London, already finding the net several times. If he can continue his good form across the whole season, he’ll hope to guide his new side back into the Champions League.
Nicolas Jackson
Going the opposite way to Morgan Rogers, Nicolas Jackson switched West London for the midlands with a summer move to Aston Villa. After a middling experience at Chelsea, Jackson is firing for fun at his new club and keeping pace at the top of the goalscoring leaderboard. With Villa fighting on all fronts, they’ll be reliant on his goals to keep them competitive in the Premier League and Champions League.
Joao Pedro
The 2025/26 Premier League season saw Joao Pedro at his most clinical, netting 15 times throughout the campaign. In what was his debut season for Chelsea, he more than showed why he was brought in from Brighton – scoring five more goals than his previous best campaign. With multiple changes in manager and a tenth-place finish, it’s safe to say that he was a bright spark in a difficult season for the Blues.
New manager Xabi Alonso comes in with fresh ideas and an impressive CV after winning the Bundesliga unbeaten. If he can add some more stability to the team, Joao Pedro could really throw his name into the mix for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Who else is in contention for the Premier League Golden Boot award?
Of course, the Premier League is far from over and there’s plenty of time for other leading forwards to stake their claim and rise among the favourites for the Golden Boot.
Cole Palmer
In what is his fourth season at Chelsea after moving from Manchester City in 2023/24, Cole Palmer will be hoping to continue his good form in front of goal this term. The forward has hit 50 Premier League goals in Chelsea colours, and there’s every expectation he’ll continue to find the net with ease.
Evanilson
If Bournemouth are to continue their rise to prominence and earn another year of European football, they’ll need Evanilson among the goals. Having already exceeded last season’s goals and assists haul, the Cherries will be confident there’s plenty more to come.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
With 14 goals last season for Leeds United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin knows how to find the back of the net. And with Leeds hoping to build on last season’s 14th place finish – with a top half finish within reach – the former Everton frontman will place a pivotal role. While he’s an outside pick among the favourites to win the Premier League Golden Boot, a strong run of form will have him well among the likely candidates.
Igor Thiago
A surprise package in the 2025/26 Golden Boot race, Brentford’s Igor Thiago could put himself up there again if he replicates similar form to last season. The Brazilian striker managed 22 goals last year, which only put him five behind the winner, Erling Haaland.
Brentford boss Keith Andrews seems to know how to get the best out of Igor Thiago as he became one of the most clinical players in the division and earned himself a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad. If Brentford can kick on again this year and have a similarly successful season in the Premier League, then there’s every chance he’s back up there again.
Kai Havertz
Despite only scoring more than ten goals once in his Premier League career, Kai Havertz should absolutely be considered among the favourites to win the Golden Boot.
The German forward’s best tally in England’s top flight was 13 goals, coming in his debut season for Arsenal. But, having started the season in goalscoring form, he could put himself in contention for the award. With the confidence of having won a Premier League title and a fresh start given his injuries in the 2025/26 season, he’s one to keep an eye on.
Viktor Gyokeres
Expectations were high when Viktor Gyokeres joined Arsenal at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, but many critics would say he is yet to meet them. His numbers, however, are actually much more promising.
He may not have set the world alight like Haaland did, but netting 14 times in his debut season is a more than respectable accomplishment. Should he become more accustomed to the Premier League and slot more comfortably into Mikel Arteta’s tactics, he could very well improve on that number. Similarly to Havertz, who knows what the confidence of winning a Premier League title can do for his form?
Antoine Semenyo
Antoine Semenyo’s scoring exploits for Bournemouth saw him a move to Manchester City in January 2026. The Ghanaian forward has increased the number of goals he scores in the Premier League every season, demonstrating that he’s only becoming more clinical with time.
Despite swapping teams in the middle of the previous season, he still managed to rack up 17 goals and ended in third place for the Golden Boot. As he’ll be more settled in his new team, he could very well improve on his goal tally in the 2026/27 campaign and give himself a real chance of winning the award.
Bryan Mbeumo
Despite not quite hitting the same heights he managed in his final season at Brentford, Bryan Mbeumo is still a top-quality forward at Man United. His last campaign with the Bees in 2024/25 saw him finish joint-third in the Golden Boot race, as he netted 20 goals – the second ever player to reach this total for the club in the Premier League.
In his first season at Man United, he scored on 11 occasions and wasn’t quite as clinical as his previous season. However, having had more time at his new team and more chance to improve the chemistry with those around him, he could bounce back and enjoy a fruitful season for the Red Devils.
Bukayo Saka
Arsenal’s star winger, Bukayo Saka, is another who could be in contention for the Premier League Golden Boot. The English attacker has managed to put up some respectable scoring campaigns over his time in England’s top flight, netting 16 goals in his most clinical season.
Saka is another player who may benefit from having a Premier League title under his belt, considering he’s only scored a total of 13 goals across the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. If he’s shaken the injury problems he’s undergone in recent years, however, he’s more than capable of finding the back of the net regularly. He’s definitely not one to ignore for the race to win the 2026/27 Premier League Golden Boot.
