Wednesday racing tips: 3 selections from Newton Abbot

Adrian Mills' focus is squarely on Newton Abbot as he provides his three best bets for Wednesday's UK racing.

There are five scheduled meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday.

First off are Newton Abbot and Nottingham, while the three evening meetings come from the Curragh, Kempton (AW) and Ripon.

We have three Wednesday fancies to follow, including an improving hurdler fancied to follow up a recent Warwick success at Newton Abbot.

Pentire Head / (Newton Abbot, 14:10)
Uggy Uggy Uggy / (Newton Abbot, 16:10)
Electric Eddy / (Newton Abbot, 16:40)

Head to prosper over fences

PENTIRE HEAD / has decent claims in the Class 4 3m2f Handicap Chase from Newton Abbot at 14:10.

The six-year-old son of Presenting is bred to be a staying handicap chaser and he is fancied to strike under optimum conditions on this chasing debut after nine encouraging previous starts, three in bumpers and six over hurdles, which suggest a mark of 104 is exploitable.

The selection is representing Paul Nicholls, who is a notable 148-485 (31%) with his runners over fences on this course.

Uggy to follow up

UGGY UGGY UGGY / has strong follow up claims in the 11-runner Class 3 extended 2m Handicap Hurdle from Newton Abbot at 16:10.

The six-year-old arrives 3-10 over hurdles. All three wins have come on good ground, so underfoot conditions should be ideal, and they have come from 2m to 2m5f, so the drop back in trip is unlikely to inconvenience him.

Admittedly, that latest progressive Warwick success came over the longer distance, but he came clear with one other from two out and that success came in a slightly stronger contest from a 6lb lower rating. The subsequent rise is largely negated with Miss Megan Bevan continuing in the saddle and able to claim a 7lb riding allowance.

The likes of Cillians Charm and Swift Hawk in opposition have been known to go from the front in the past which suggests there should be plenty of pace on and Keiran Burke’s yard continues in decent form, with an 80% Run-To-Form figure in the past 14 days. His runners over hurdles on this course are an encouraging 4-26 (15%).

Electric’s avenue to success

ELECTRIC EDDY / is representing Nigel Twiston-Davies in the 11-runner first division of the Class 5 extended 2m Handicap Hurdle from Newton Abbot at 16:40.

Twiston-Davies had a winner at Huntingdon in the final third of May and his even more recent runners have generally performed with credit.

He is a notable 32-150 (21% +£1.95) with his representatives over hurdles at Newton Abbot and the unexposed Electric Eddy produced a more encouraging effort when a six-length seventh of 11 on good to soft ground at Uttoxeter last month.

He was dropped 2lb to a mark of 94 despite his Racing Post Rating taking a step back in the right direction on his fifth career start, and Finn Lambert is taking over in the saddle. Lambert is 24-141 (17%) when riding for Twiston-Davies and is able to claim another 3lb.

The sharper nature of this course on a better surface is likely to suit the six-year-old and he has likeable each-way claims.
