Saturday is certainly a busy one on the racing front, with eight meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.
A total of 10 races will be shown live on ITV, with Haydock, Goodwood, York and the Curragh being covered, and there are several Group races on offer across the afternoon.
The Curragh hosts the Irish 2000 Guineas, in which Newmarket runner-up Gstaad heads the field, while Haydock is likely to provide some Royal Ascot form pointers.
Derby and Oaks trials are the main events at Goodwood and we’re well set for an unmissable afternoon.
Below are our four horse racing betting tips for the day’s action.
Saturday Lucky 15 racing tips
- 14:58 Haydock – Coppull @ 9/2
- 15:30 Haydock – American Affair @ 17/2
- 15:40 Curragh – Gstaad @ 4/9
- 16:15 Curragh – Causeway @ 5/4
14:58 Haydock – Coppull @ 9/2
It would be very dangerous to underestimate Clive Cox’s COPPULL in the first of Haydock’s Group 2 contests.
Hopefully there will be some Commonwealth Cup pointers on offer and this colt looks well set to go close. He brings a high level of form to the table and victory can’t be ruled out.
Third behind Gstaad in the Coventry Stakes last term, he won the Richmond Stakes after that and the runner-up has gone on to win multiple Group 1s.
It was a good effort when third and beaten by less than a length in the Middle Park and his Ascot success earlier this month suggests there could be more to come.
15:30 Haydock – American Affair @ 17/2
Jim Goldie’s AMERICAN AFFAIR took a huge leap forward last season and developed into a top level sprinter.
The son of Washington DC started off by getting the better of Jm Jungle in a couple of decent handicaps at Musselburgh and York, before going up in grade after that.
Fifth in this race last year, he was over-racing in the early stages of the race, which probably impacted his finishing effort, but was a tad unlucky and didn’t get the clearest of passages.
He returned to winning ways on the big stage and, having taken the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot, he’s the one to beat on that form.
15:40 Curragh – Gstaad @ 4/9
There are no thrills with regards to the available prices on this horse, but there’s a very good reason for that. Aidan O’Brien’s GSTAAD was one of the top two-year-olds last time and the early signs are that he has maintained a high level as a three-year-old.
He won the Coventry Stakes in very good style at Royal Ascot last season and performed consistently in Group 1 company after that, eventually returning to winning ways in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
Second in the 2000 Guineas, he was eight lengths clear of the third and a similar effort will be enough.
16:15 Curragh – Causeway @ 5/4
Aidan O’Brien chose not to run CAUSEWAY in the Irish Guineas, which was a bit disappointing, as he possesses a similar profile to the excellent Paddington.
A steadier approach might pay dividends though and the three-year-old is set to go up to 1m2f for the first time in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes.
Winning a maiden in good style on his second start last term, he started the season off in the Madrid Handicap at Naas and battled on well to score by a head.
He then won a Listed contest here at the Curragh by a couple of lengths and provided the trip is fine, he’s more than ready for this level.
