Saturday Lucky 15 racing tips

There’s plenty of competitive action to look forward to in Britain and Ireland on Saturday, with a total of eight meetings, and Sandown the star attraction.

We’ve been treated to some cracking racing throughout the campaign and Sandown’s eight-race card is top-drawer, with the feature race being the £175,000 Gold Cup.

Well supported by some quality graded action, the Grade 1 Celebration Chase is also on the agenda and Jonbon is set to line up once again.

Here are four of our strongest fancies across the card and chief among them is a potentially unexposed staying chaser for Tom Lacey, who could go all the way in the big race of the day.

Below are our four horse racing betting tips for the day’s action.

Saturday Lucky 15 racing tips

  • 14:20 Sandown – Matterhorn @ 10/3

  • 14:55 Sandown – Solness @ 9/2

  • 15:30 Sandown – Montregard @ 9/2

  • 16:02 Sandown – Kabral Du Mathan @ 1/2

14:20 Sandown – Matterhorn @ 10/3

This certainly isn’t the strongest Grade 2 contest and a rating in the mid-140s could well be enough.

Paul Nicholls often has plenty of winners at this meeting and the eight-year-old Matterhorn could provide him with another. Good ground is very important to him, hence why he usually has a break over the winter.

With that in mind, conditions should be perfect for him here and this race represents a rare chance at landing a graded contest. A rating of 146 suggests he should have every chance and there’s only one runner in the field with a higher mark than him. Nicholls’ gelding is entitled to go close here.

14:55 Sandown – Solness @ 9/2

Jonbon has won this race twice in the last three years but he looks vulnerable in Grade 1s over this sort of trip these days.

Joseph O’Brien’s Solness is the standout contender here and he’s a proven performer at around two miles in Grade 1 company over in Ireland.

The son of Konig Turf has three Grade 1 victories to his name and the most recent of those came at Leopardstown over Christmas.

He got the better of 2025 Champion Chase winner Marine Nationale on that occasion and his narrow defeat in the Melling Chase last time makes him the one to beat.

15:30 Sandown – Montregard @ 9/2

There are several intriguing candidates who are yet to prove their stamina and the Tom Lacey-trained Montregard tops the list.

He has developed into a useful handicap chaser over three miles this term and it would be no surprise if the marathon trip can facilitate further improvement.

There was a lot to like about his impressive victory in the valuable Swinley Chase at Ascot last time out, and he kept on well to score by just shy of three lengths.

A 4lb rise should be manageable and it’s worth noting that the eight-year-old is a full-brother to Grade 1-winning chaser Protektorat.

16:02 Sandown – Kabral Du Mathan @ 1/2

Kabral Du Mathan struggled with overracing last season but the penny has dropped somewhat this time around and he is settling much better as a result.

The 156-rated hurdler travels very strongly into his races and would have won the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham if he had seen out the trip.

He won his first couple of starts for Dan Skelton in good style and was particularly impressive when winning the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham in January.

Skelton’s gelding made subsequent BetMGM Cup winner Jingko Blue look average on that occasion and should confirm the form with that rival here.
