We have a very busy day ahead of us on the racing front, with eight meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.
Beverley and Carlisle host the ITV action in Britain and there are further Flat fixtures from Chester, Catterick and Lingfield alongside the National Hunt meeting at Stratford, whilst they race at Listowel and Tramore in Ireland – both over jumps.
Carlisle’s feature race is the Group 3 Betway Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes and a field of eight has been declared. It should be an intriguing 1m3f contest and there’s a sizable prize fund of £125,000 on offer. Last year’s winner Estrange heads the field and she was second in a Group 1 on Champions’ Day when last seen.
We’ve selected four strong fancies to follow across the afternoon and they include a thoroughly unexposed William Haggas runner in the Betway Silver Bowl Handicap at Carlisle.
Below are our four horse racing betting tips for the day’s action.
Saturday Lucky 15 racing tips
- 13:30 Carlisle – Opportunity @ 7/5
- 14:33 Carlisle – Starlust @ 3/1
- 15:10 Carlisle – Estrange @ 10/11
- 15:45 Carlisle – Princling @ 3/1
13:30 Carlisle – Opportunity @ 7/5
William Haggas has landed plenty of winners in the last fortnight and it would be no surprise if OPPORTUNITY manages to add to his tally. The son of Frankel is out of Group 1 winner Izzi Top and he managed to get the better of subsequent St Leger runner-up Rahiebb on seasonal bow last season at Haydock
He was highly tried thereafter last term in two further starts, and he found Group 2 level too much to handle when last of nine in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Switching to handicaps looks like the right idea and he appeared to need the run when third at Ascot earlier this month, keeping on well late in the piece to finish third. There could be loads more to come from him.
14:33 Carlisle – Starlust @ 3/1
We didn’t get to see much of STARLUST last term, making just two starts, but there was lots to like about his fourth-place finish in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot. Running on well that day, he was only a length-and-a-half behind winner American Affair.
Consistency maybe isn’t his forte but the son of Zoustar won a Listed race at York back in 2024. His finest performance came in the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint and the gap came just in time for him to squeeze through and land the spoils. If he can produce a performance within a few pounds of that, victory seems likely in this Listed contest on his reappearance as he holds a class-edge on the field.
15:10 Carlisle – Estrange @ 10/11
There’s a significant gap in quality between David O’Meara’s ESTRANGE and the rest of the field here and the very fast ground is the only slight negative. That being said, she was second behind Minnie Hauk in the Yorkshire Oaks on good to firm ground last term and a similar performance would be enough.
Also second in the Group 1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes in October, there were some very useful performers in behind on that occasion. Estrange was an impressive winner of this very race last year, scoring by four-and-a-half lengths, and it should be a similar story this time around too under regular rider Danny Tudhope.
15:45 Carlisle – Princling @ 3/1
There’s £100,000 on offer for the Betway Silver Bowl Handicap so it’s no surprise that a competitive field of 16 has been declared. It’s often wise to side with horses who still have a secret or two from the handicapper and that is definitely true in the case of William Haggas’ PRINCLING.
He makes his handicap debut here and showed plenty when finishing second in two starts as a two-year-old. Clearly the step up to a mile suited at Beverley on seasonal debut and he duly obliged with plenty in hand. The best is almost certainly yet to come and he should be well ahead of the handicapper.
