Andrew Balding Betway Blog: Glorious Goodwood Tuesday 26 07 22

The Betway ambassador previews his eight runners on the first day of Glorious Goodwood.

Bell Rock {ODDS:970562511:15/2} (13:50) wants to step up in trip now. He’s down a few lbs in the handicap since his last run at this level. The ground should suit him and, with Harry Davies taking off 5b, he should be competitive.

Happy Power {ODDS:970562967:28/1} (15:00) is in great form. I just hope, that’s its good ground for the first day of the meeting as anything fast will cause us to have a rethink. He’s a 7f specialist who has run well in this race before.

Sandrine {ODDS:970562960:10/1} (15:00) has run well on each start this season. She is very decent filly on her day. The drop back to 7f shouldn’t be a problem but one concern is that she didn’t take the bend too well at Ascot, largely as she got nudged at a vital stage. Hopefully she can negotiate the bend better here. Obviously, it’s a tough race and they’re not easy to win.

Nate The Great {ODDS:970563017:80/1} (15:35) is in bit of a hard place as he put in two stellar performances which have seen his mark rise. He loves fast ground, stays well and could nick some minor prize money.

Coltrane {ODDS:970563011:17/2} (15:35) seems to be in the form of his life. His last three runs on turf have been excellent. He’s been great form at home, I’ve been really pleased with him since Sandown. It goes without saying that we’re lining up against the best stayers in the world, so it’s no easy task.

Stone Of Destiny {ODDS:970562976:9/1} (16:10) been hugely disappointing this year. We’ve been trying to mix up his training regime to spark him into action, but nothing has worked yet. However, with each poor run he does go down in the handicap ratings, so when he feels he’s up to it he’ll be dangerous.

Celtic Champion {ODDS:970563180:9/2} (16:45) is a lovely horse. He blew the start on his debut at Windsor, and he’s entitled to come on for that. I’m looking forward to seeing him run.

Wilderness Girl {ODDS:970563514:SP} (17:20) won’t want it too quick. A mile around here would be spot on for her and, providing the ground is OK for her, she should be competitive.
