Andrew Balding Betway blog: Glorious Goodwood Saturday 31 07 21

The Betway ambassador assesses the chances of his seven entries at Glorious Goodwood and four others at Newmarket, Doncaster and Lingfield.

Goodwood runners

Oo De Lally {ODDS:768109090:10/1} seems in good form at home but, ideally, he wants soft ground (13:20).

Will Carver rode him to finish second in a similar race over course-and-distance earlier in the season.

Tribal Craft {ODDS:768109139:14/1} is another who would like the heavens to open. She’s a hardy horse who has done well this season and, on her best form, she could well pick up some prize money (15:05).

Chil Chil {ODDS:768109112:11/1} is carrying top weight in the Stewards’ Cup (15:40) and that is no easy task.

She’s in great form at home and ran well in the July Cup last time out. She’s improved throughout the season and can be competitive if the ground dries up.

Imperial Fighter {ODDS:768109168:SP} is having his first racecourse start (16:10). This is a tough assignment on what is often a good, strong maiden, but he’s done some good work and is a horse I like at home.

We’ve got three runners in the Signature Apprentice Handicap (16:45)

Zwayyan {ODDS:768109167:SP} is a grand old servant. He’s getting a bit long in the tooth now and is really getting wise. He’s still got plenty of ability, though, and showed plenty of enthusiasm last time out. If he commits himself, then he’s got every chance of going well.

Fox Premier {ODDS:768109144:SP} has been off the track for a while, but we know he’s a very able horse. He’s had his issues and is entitled to come on for the run.

Calcutta Cup {ODDS:768109207:SP} was due to run at Sandown on Wednesday, but it got rained off halfway through the meeting. This is a further step up in trip for him – which is always an unknown – but he’s been working well and seems on a fair mark.

Newmarket runners

Invite {ODDS:768102171:13/2} is yet another horse who will need the rain to come. She is a filly that is new to us, but she’s got some good form in the book and managed to finish fifth in the Italian Oaks.

She looks worthy of her place in Stakes races, but she’ll really need cut in the ground (14:45).

Bonnyrigg {ODDS:768102187:SP} seems to really like Newmarket and that will help him. He was very disappointing last time out and with no real excuse, too.

I thought he’d go very close at Epsom last time and, if he puts that poor run behind him, he must have every chance (16:30).

Other runners elsewhere

Good Birthday {ODDS:768103900:SP} has been very consistent this year. He had a terrible passage in the John Smith’s Cup as he was out on the wing the whole way, but this is more to his liking and he should run with great credit (15:30, Doncaster).

Eikonix {ODDS:768102418:SP} is having his first start (19:35, Lingfield). He seems to be getting there in his work at home and will be better with this experience under his belt. He should be winning races going forward.
