Tuesday marks the opening day of Glorious Goodwood and we have three selections for the first of five days of top-quality racing from the track.
Glorious Goodwood is the next of Britain’s major summer festivals on the horizon, with the first of five days at the Sussex circuit taking place on Tuesday.
The Goodwood Cup is the day one feature as reigning champ Scandinavia bids for successive wins, with the Vintage and Lennox Stakes adding Group-race depth to an eight-race opening salvo at Goodwood on Tuesday from 13:50-17:55.

The opening Chesterfield Cup is a typically competitive Goodwood handicap over a mile-and-a-quarter and, with 18 runners declared, some good fortune will go a long way to finding the winner.
Lots have chances but James Doyle’s allegiance to QUAI DE BETHUNE over Torito in the same silks is noted.
The Persian King gelding won the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot last summer off a mark of 93 on what proved his final start for the Andrew Balding team.
He shaped as if needing the run at Epsom in June on his first start in 349 days and didn’t get a clear passage in the John Smith’s Cup at York earlier this month.
The handicapper has eased him 3lb for that effort and he could resume the progress of last summer now.
14:25 Goodwood – Haffner @ 2/1
Aidan O’Brien will be hoping to take the feature race with Scandinavia, and may well do so, but before that HAFFNER can give the Ballydoyle supremo his fourth Vintage Stakes win and a first since Battleground scored behind closed doors in 2020.
Haffner was denied on debut over 6f by stablemate Abraham Lincoln but promises to be more suited by this trip based on his 7f Newmarket win this month in which he made all the running.
His main market rival here is Godolphin inmate Al Hudaiba, with Charlie Appleby’s contender having got up late to deny Abraham Lincoln in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes on that same Newmarket card recently.
The runner-up was wayward late on and Haffner has plenty of scope for progress after two starts, whereas Al Hudaiba has four runs behind him. Ryan Moore’s partner may dominate this contest.
16:10 Goodwood – Naana’s Sparkle @ 11/1
Course form around Goodwood is an excellent currency to deal in an NAANA’S SPARKLE has a win and a close third from two runs at this venue.
He moved yards over the winter and is 2-3 so far for Lemos Souza this season. He won on turf at Yarmouth in May and defied a mark of 89 to score at Southwell most recently.
The four-year-old acts on any ground and his prominent racing style looks an asset in this big-field Goodwood sprint scenario.
