The money list: Our 7 best bets for the WGC Mexico Championship

A prolific winner in fine form, the steady, accurate Stenson heads this instalment of our weekly golf tips...

For this week’s WGC Mexico Championship, we’re paying out seven places each way in a brand new winner’s market.

These are our top selections to take advantage of the offer.

Henrik Stenson – {ODDS:140568906:10/1}

Stenson is poised for a good weekend in what will be his first PGA Tour appearance of the year.

The Open champion has enjoyed a solid start to the European Tour season, finishing eighth in Abu Dhabi in January and second at the Dubai Desert Classic.

The Swede isn’t the longest driver, but does hit it straight off the tee.

He ranks seventh in driving accuracy on the European Tour, which bodes well for his chances on the narrow, tree-lined fairways of Chapultepec.

Stenson has also had some success at this event in the past, winning in 2007 when it was still a match-play tournament.

With 19 career victories in total, he looks the likeliest bet to compete with the in-form duo of Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth.

Justin Rose – {ODDS:140568944:16/1}

Given that Roberto Diaz is the only player in the field to have played competitively at Chapultepec before, current form takes particular precedence in picking a winner at this event.

For that reason, Rose has to be backed, especially at this price.

The 2013 US Open winner has three top-five places in his last four starts, and currently ranks fourth in total shots gained and third in scoring average on the PGA Tour.

His fourth place at the Genesis Open two weeks ago is a good omen, as the Riviera uses the same blend of grass for its fairways as this course.

Fully recovered from the back problems that caused him to miss so much time last season, it is only a matter of time until he earns his first PGA Tour win since 2015.

Adam Scott – {ODDS:140568953:18/1}

Scott is the defending champion at this event, having pipped Bubba Watson by a shot in Doral last season, just a week after he won the Honda Classic.

The Australian tends to find form in bursts.

Those consecutive wins were preceded by a second place at the Northern Trust Open, and he also strung together three successive fourth places later in the season.

While he is yet to really contend at a tournament in 2017, Scott has put together a decent run of results with seven top-15 finishes in a row.

He has only played in two PGA Tour events this year, but ranks ninth in total shots gained, seventh in scoring average and fifth in good drive percentage.

That consistency off the tee should give him a good chance of contending this weekend, and he is a fine choice for Betway’s extra places offer at {ODDS:140568952:18/1}.

Louis Oosthuizen – {ODDS:140569000:40/1}

Oosthuizen has been in good nick over the past few months, with four top-10 finishes in his last seven starts.

Not that form has mattered too much to the South African in the past.

He won the Open in 2010 on the back of two consecutive missed cuts, and was the runner up in 2015 following a 73rd-place finish at the Greenbrier Classic.

Oosthuizen’s success at St Andrews shows how well he can perform at a course that suits his style, and Chapultepec has the potential to become one of his favourites.

That he ranks eighth in shots gained from tee to green but just 69th in driving distance this season illustrates how accurate he is, so the tight fairways should give him no problems.

That the course uses Kikuyu – an African grass – is another bonus for the world No. 25, who can be backed to finish in the top five at {ODDS:140568901:10/1}.

Best of the rest

Tyrrell Hatton – {ODDS:140569004:28/1}

One of the most improved players on tour over the past year, Hatton has been on fire recently, with three top-five finishes in his last four starts.

Considering this is just his second PGA Tour appearance, a win might be beyond him.

At {ODDS:140569004:28/1}, though, he is a sneaky pick for our extra-place offer.

Martin Kaymer – {ODDS:140569001:40/1}

Kaymer came fourth at the Honda Classic last week – his second top five in four 2017 starts.

The German does not hit particularly long off the tee, but is accurate and a former WGC winner.

Given that 16 of the 18 winners of this tournament have been major champions, Kaymer – a US Open and PGA Championship winner – fits the bill.

Jhonnatan Vegas – {ODDS:140569125:80/1}

Vegas finished 15th at the Genesis Open a fortnight ago and followed up with a fourth at the Honda, proving he is more than just a big hitter.

Driving is his strength, though, and he will benefit from the extra length afforded by the high altitude.

At {ODDS:140568895:8/1}, he is a good outside bet to finish in the top 10.
