Preston vs. Swindon: Expect goals aplenty and late drama in this League One playoff final

With both sides having lost in the playoffs in recent seasons, they will be desperate to avoid the same fate again, but with a stalemate likely there could be penalty heartbreak for one team

1) Swindon’s 5-5 draw with Sheffield United in the second leg of their play-off tie set a record for the highest scoring play-off game ever. Expect a similarly thrilling game here, with over 4.5 goals priced at 19/4.

2) Jermaine Beckford scored three of his side’s four goals in their two matches against Chesterfield, including an audacious effort from the halfway line. The on-loan striker is 5/1 to open the scoring on Sunday.

3) The Robins limped over the finishing line at the end of the season, failing to win their last five games in the league. By contrast, Simon Grayson’s men lost just one of their final 19 games, and continued that electrifying form by winning both semi-final games. They are 6/5 to continue that fine form by defeating Swindon.

4) Swindon went into half time drawing 0-0 in over half of their games this season, showing how it often takes Mark Cooper’s men a while to get going. Their first half against Preston to be goalless is priced at 9/5.

5) Preston had the second best defence in League One, conceding just 40 goals in 46 games – 17 less than Sunday’s opponents.

6) Two of the last four League One play-off finals have gone all the way and been decided by a penalty shootout. Preston to win on penalties is priced at 10/1.

7) Both of these sides have improved on recent play-off performances – Swindon lost in the semi-finals in 2013, whilst Preston crashed out at the same stage last year.
