Sunday's headline clash pits Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal against mid-table Newcastle United, with both teams eager to get back to winning ways.
Although the Gunners have understandably been installed as favourites given each side’s recent form, Eddie Howe certainly appeared to have Mikel Arteta’s number last term.
Newcastle won three of the four meetings between this pair during the 2024/25 campaign, with two of these triumphs coming at the semi-final stage of the EFL Cup, a trophy which would soon be safely nestled in the St. James’ Park trophy cabinet.
In preparation for Sunday’s keenly anticipated match-up, we’ve prepared an enticing three-fold Bet Builder.
Newcastle United vs. Arsenal Bet Builder Tips
Arsenal to come out on top
Arteta’s men have secured 10 points from their opening five league fixtures, racking up 10 goals in the process.
A 1-0 loss at Anfield remains the only setback amidst a series of positive performances, as the Gunners continue to build momentum after edging past Manchester United, delivering two thumping wins at the Emirates and salvaging a draw in last weekend’s tense encounter with Manchester City.
The Magpies’ stalemate at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium was emblematic of their underwhelming start to the new campaign, which has seen them record just two victories across all competitions.
Further goalless draws away at Aston Villa and Leeds United bookended a heartbreaking defeat to early pace-setters Liverpool, before Barcelona emerged triumphant on Tyneside in last week’s Champions League opener.
Surely, there can only be one outcome.
Leg 1: Arsenal to win @ 11/10
Potentially busy afternoon for the officials
Although both sides currently preside over relatively good disciplinary records, last season;s clashes between Newcastle and Arsenal produced a colossal 14 yellow cards in total.
More than half of these bookings were dished out during the Magpies’ 1-0 win at St. James’ Park last November, when four players from each team were cautioned.
The reverse fixture in North London witnessed another six yellows, with five of these coming in second-half stoppage time. Arteta’s name also found its way into the referee’s notebook after the Spanish tactician was punished for timewasting.
The Gunners were issued six red cards during the 2024/25 campaign, more than any other Premier League outfit.
However, a full complement of 22 players was present throughout both of the aforementioned meetings between this pair.
Leg 2: Over 5.5 Cards @ 7/4
Gyökeres can add to his tally
Having registered three goals in his first five Premier League appearances, Viktor Gyökeres has settled well in the capital after leaving Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in the summer.
After claiming a brace in the 5-0 hammering of Leeds United, the Sweden international doubled the Gunners’ lead during September’s comfortable victory over Nottingham Forest.
Only one of his team-mates – fellow new arrival Noni Madueke – has enjoyed more touches in the opposition’s box so far, while Gyökeres also smacked the woodwork against Ange Postecolou’s men.
These are further indications of the 27-year-old striker’s intent, who will be desperate to deliver his first goal for Arsenal away from the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
