MLS: Players to look out for in 2015

Do you know your Kaká's from your Castillo's? Here's a look at some of the best players in MLS for the 2015 season

With Major League Soccer rapidly improving and huge stars joining the league on a yearly basis, there’s no wonder interest in soccer across the pond is constantly increasing.

From Kaká to Castillo, the league is now blessed with fine talent, and if you’re not aware of some of the best players in MLS then read on.

Kaká (Orlando City)

The Brazilian legend made the move to join Orlando City in time for their first MLS campaign and he has enjoyed his start to life with the expansion franchise with five goals and two assists in 12 appearances so far. The former Ballon d’Or winner was one of football’s greatest playmakers and he still has plenty to offer.

Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC)

The Italian forward is also known as the ‘Atomic Ant’ because of his small but strong stature. He joined Toronto FC from Italian giants Juventus before the start of the 2015 season and has already netted five goals with four assists in ten games for the Canadian side. He is one of the most dangerous players in MLS.

Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy)

The former Spurs striker has been in MLS for four years and scooped the Most Valuable Player award last season after some incredible displays for the LA Galaxy. He has started this season with injury troubles but already has two goals and one assist in six games. He may be 34 but he’s still got bundles of ability.

Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas)

The FC Dallas winger is the youngest player on this list but is by no means out of his depth. Castillo has lightning pace and can turn any game in a flash. He has four goals and four assists in 12 games so far and is an early candidate for the MVP award come the end of the season. At just 22-years-old, the Colombian has time to improve further and is certainly a player to keep an eye on.

Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders)

Clint Dempsey is arguably the most complete player in MLS as he can do just about anything. The former Fulham and Spurs man can play in midfield or as a striker and is always involved in everything the Seattle Sounders do going forward. The USA international has seven goals and four assists in ten games so far and is playing some of the best football of his career.

Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders)

The Nigerian striker plays alongside Clint Dempsey at the Seattle Sounders in what is the most lethal partnership in the league. Martins has six goals already this campaign and is still blessed with lethal pace at the age of 30.

David Villa (New York City)

Another familiar name for football fans around the world is David Villa. The former World Cup winner made the move to MLS in time for New York City FC’s first season in the league, and although the side have endured a tough start to life in MLS, the Spanish attacker is undoubtedly their shining light. He will be looking forward to linking up with Frank Lampard in July.

Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

The San Jose Earthquakes striker became just the ninth player in MLS history to score 100 regular season goals last weekend and already has seven in 12 games this term. He scores goals for fun and is always a threat in the box.

Jermaine Jones (New England Revolution)

One of the more defensive-minded talents in a league oozing with attacking class is Jermaine Jones. The New England Revolution midfielder, who can also operate at centre-back, turned the Eastern Conference side into MLS Cup contenders as he helped them to the final after joining midway through last season. He is a real star for both club and country and one of the league’s most athletic players.
