Champions League tips: Best bets for Arsenal v PSG

Henry Hardwicke's selections for Tuesday night's Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium include a win and clean sheet for the Gunners.

Arsenal’s contest with PSG is the blockbuster clash on Tuesday night’s Champions League card and the Gunners will be hoping to see off the challenge of the Parisian giants.

Mikel Arteta’s men moved to the head of the Premier League outright betting last weekend and the Gunners will be looking to make an impact in Europe’s top competition this season.

PSG have assumed their familiar position at the top of the Ligue 1 table and Luis Enrique’s men opened their European campaign with a 1-0 Parc des Princes success over Girona.

Arsenal are the 3/4 favourites, with PSG 7/2 to leave north London with three points and the draw is available at 11/4.

Best bets

Arsenal to win to nil /

Jurrien Timber to have one or more shots on target /

Gunners defence can stand firm

Arsenal were fortunate to hold on for a 0-0 draw at Atalanta on matchday one of the Champions League, but the Gunners look good value to pick up their first European success of the season when PSG come to the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s men have impressed when beating Aston Villa and Tottenham this season and the Gunners were on course to take three points against Premier League title rivals Manchester City before they were reduced to ten men.

PSG have won five of their opening six Ligue 1 matches, but it’s clear the standard in the French top flight is miles below the opposition Arsenal have taken on domestically this term, and this isn’t the star-studded Parisian side of old.

Luis Enrique has a talented squad at his disposal, but Lionel Messi, Neymar, Marco Verratti, Manuel Ugarte and Kylian Mbappe have all left Paris in the last couple of seasons and the Spaniard will also be without forward Ousmane Dembele, who was left out of the squad which traveled to London due to disciplinary reasons.

PSG huffed and puffed in their opening Champions League contest against Girona, but they struggled to break down the Spanish side, until goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga put the ball into his own net in the dying seconds of that Parc des Princes contest.

Arsenal welcome Mikel Merino back from injury and the 28-year-old can offer further protection to a strong Arsenal back five.

The Gunners have already kept four clean sheets this term, in only eight games, and backing Arsenal to win to nil looks a nice option this evening.

Timber can cut down rivals

Ben White looks set to miss tonight’s clash through injury, which is likely to mean that Jurrien Timber continues on the right-hand side of the Arsenal defence.

The Dutchman has made an impressive start to the season and the full-back offers a little more than White in an attacking sense.

The 23-year-old has registered four shots on goal this season, and he provided an assist for Arsenal’s opening goal against Leicester at the weekend, which indicates the attacking intent of Timber. The Dutchman looks good value to record at least one shot on target against PSG.
