All eyes on Masters champ Rory McIlroy, who's been dealing with a toe injury, cutting a practice round short yesterday
No surprise – Scottie Scheffler is the golf betting favourite heading into the 108th 2026 PGA Championship, at Aronimink Golf Club, in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, as of late afternoon Wednesday.
That’s usually the way it is heading into majors. Scheffler is a Cyborg with TaylorMade clubs, with four majors under his belt, 20 PGA Tour wins overall. Rory McIlroy, coming off his second straight Masters win, is next in line, at +800.
Scheffler tees it off in the first round with Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose at 2:05 p.m. EST tomorrow. McIlroy tees off with Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm at 8:40 a.m. EST.
Scheffler has finished runner-up in his last three PGA Tour events – 2nd place behind Cameron Young in the Cadillac Championship, losing in a playoff to Matt Fitzpatrick in the RBC Heritage, and finishing solo second, one shot behind McIlroy, in the Masters.
“It’s bittersweet, because finishing second in a golf tournament is not bad,” said Scheffler. “Especially in the way I did it in a couple of them. I was spotting guys so many strokes going into the weekend. The Masters, I didn’t have very good chance going to the weekend there. You look at Hilton Head I didn’t have very good chance going to the weekend there, and then, Cadillac, I finished solo second but really didn’t have that good of a chance.
“You know, you’re playing good golf, and you love to get some wins, and finishing second hurts. But I think when you reflect and you’re looking at things to work on, you’re like, there’s a lot less to clean up when you finish in second than there is when you’re finishing 30th.”
BEST BETS
According to Betway, Scheffler is at +450, then McIlroy +800, Cameron Young +1100, Jon Rahm +1400, Ludvig Aberg +1600, Xander Schauffele +1600, Bryson DeChambeau +2000, Matt Fitzpatrick +2000, Tommy Fleetwood +2200 and Brooks Koepka +3300.
Scheffler to Win +450
This is the safest outright, plus he’s defending PGA champion, with elite consistency. Aronimink Golf Club plays as a demanding par-70, 7,394 yards, emphasizing precision, strategic positioning, long-iron control, and quality approach over raw power.
Scheffler is a stellar ball striker and ranks at the top in total strokes gained: off the tee, approach the green, around the green, putting.
He combines above-average distance off the tee with outstanding accuracy and shot-shaping, elite iron play and long iron control, bogey avoidance, plus the mental strength of his game – adjusting to firm/fast versus soft conditions.
Bryson DeChambeau Top 10 Finish +210
I like this one, since DeChambeau is built for Aronimink – it’s long and rewards aggressive drivers off the tee, overpowering the Par-4s. Few players teeing off this week can out-hit DeChambeau.
Cameron Young To Win +1100
Young has been gaining ground in odds, and for good reason – winning The Players Championship and Cadillac Championship, finishing third at the Masters, over the past two months.
Notable: McIlroy Top 5 Finish +210, although he is dealing with a blister on his toe that forced him to stop practice yesterday. Still, a combination of major experience, length and confidence, who thrives on northeast championship golf courses, makes him one of my favourite bets going into Round 1 tomorrow.
