Scheffler leads a 30-player field starting level under the simplified format, opening opportunities across several betting markets
The PGA Tour wraps up the FedExCup playoffs this week with the TOUR Championship, the third and final tournament of the playoffs, at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Top 70 PGA Tour players started at the playoff round at the FedEx St. Jude Championship Aug. 13-16, whittled down to 50 at the BMW Championship last weekend, and whittled down again to 30 golfers for this weekend’s event.
The TOUR Championship, a four-round, no-cut tournament, determines the FedExCup champion.
For bettors, it’s interesting – stronger players are concentrated in smaller fields. Every round carries consequences – players compete to win the tournament and the tournament purse, but also to advance. Head-to-head matchups, finishing-position bets and player props are all less vulnerable since every golfer completes all four rounds.
In golf betting at Betway, Scottie Scheffler is the favourite to win the Tour Championship, at +333, followed by Rory McIlroy (+800), Xander Schauffele (+1100), Patrick Cantlay (+1400), Wyndham Clark (+1400), Collin Morikawa (+1600), Ludvig Aberg (+1600), Sam Burns (+1600), Cameron Young (+1800), and Tommy Fleetwood (+1800).
Scheffler is -500 to finish in the Top 10, followed by McIlroy (-188), Schauffele (-150), Morikawa (+100), Aberg (+100), Cantlay (+100), Burns (+100), Clark (+100), Young (+110), and Chris Gotterup (+110).
Clark won last weekend’s BMW Championship, shooting 17-under overall.
McIlroy has won the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club three times (2016, 2019, and 2022). According to Data Golf, McIlroy has averaged 2.49 true strokes gained on the field across 48 career rounds at East Lake.
McIlroy is worth backing at +950 because the price offers value for a three-time East Lake winner who enters in strong form (-13 at the BMW Championship, third in the tournament). He no longer has to overcome the starting-strokes disadvantage used in previous years (eliminated in 2025, now all golfers start at even par).
After that, like with the previous two tournaments, I’ll sprinkle some money around the Top 10 and Top 5 markets.
Scheffler is -150 to finish Top 5, followed by McIlroy (+162), Schauffele (+187), Morikawa (+275), Aberg (+275), Cantlay (+275), Burns (+275), Clark (+275), Young (+300) and Matt Fitzpatrick (+300).
Well, I like Morikawa Top 10, that’s for sure, at +100. An elite approach player well suited for this golf course, coming off a strong T4 at the BMW Championship. Plus, he’s an accurate driver on a course that penalizes misses. That +275 for a Top 5 is tempting, but I’ll go the safer route.
Russell Henley is another home-state player, with solid East Lake form (accuracy, irons) who’s +137 to finish Top 10. Patrick Cantlay is a proven winner there (2021). His approach strength makes him a good Top 10 (+100) or Top 5 (+275) pick.
For a longer-odds play, consider Justin Rose to finish in the Top 5 (+650), given his past success at East Lake and comfort in elite fields.
If you’re interested, Clark is playing some of the best golf of his career, winning the BMW Championship by three strokes, and is a good Top 5 bet at +275. He finished eighth here in 2024, with a third-place finish in 2023.
