Final | France |
Mexico’s route to the World Cup final starts with a round of 32 clash with Ecuador. They’re expected to dismiss this early test with relative ease, and it’s the round of 16 onwards where things get a little more challenging.
With England considered their likeliest round of 16 opponent, the Mexicans will be hoping home advantage plays its part in what would be a famous win. Mexico has reached the World Cup quarter finals just twice before – in 1970 and 1986. They were hosts on each of those occasions though, too, so history is well and truly in their favour!
Onto the quarter finals, Mexico could line up against Brazil. Though the Seleção have won five times, their not the same outfit they were when they last triumphed in 2002, and Mexico will know that anything can happen in a one-off contest.
If Mexico exceed expectations and reach the semis, 2022 victors Argentina will be their next hurdle. Lionel Messi is firing for fun at the tournament, so La Albiceleste will be tough to beat, but stranger things have happened!
And finally, a clash with France in the World Cup final awaits the winner from Mexico’s side of the draw. Les Bleus entered the tournament as one of the favourites to take the title, and with the 2018 title under their belts they know how to do the business in the final. Though, if Mexico manage to get this far, who knows what other magic might happen…
