How to read Mexico betting odds

Mexico odds are represented using fractional terms. This just means that every outcome is represented by a fraction that shows the likelihood that an outcome will occur. So, if there’s a smaller fraction (e.g. 1/3), there’s a higher chance the outcome will occur. If there’s a larger fraction (e.g. 3/1), there’s a lower chance the outcome will occur.

Fractional odds strike a good balance between clearly showing bets and also being easy to work out potential earnings. To calculate hypothetical winnings, you just need to divide the figure you staked by the number on the right-hand side of the fraction and multiply that by the number on the left-hand side of the fraction. Add your original stake on top, and that’s the money you’ll receive back from a winner.

If you would like to discover more about how Mexico odds work, we have a useful fractional odds explainer that provides a more in-depth breakdown. To work out your earnings even faster, why not use our betting calculator tool that figures it out for you? So that you can have a clearer example, we’ve got a couple of examples below.

An example of Mexico football odds

Mexico’s odds of beating South Africa are around 1/2, with South Africa’s odds of defeating Mexico standing at 19/4.

This means that if you put a £10 bet on Mexico to defeat South Africa, you would receive £15 (10 ÷ 2 = 5, then 5 × 1 = 5, plus the original £10 bet).

Then, as South Africa’s odds to beat Mexico are higher, if they managed to win you would likely profit more. So, betting £20 on South Africa to defeat Mexico would return £115 (20 ÷ 4 = 5, then 5 × 19 = 95, plus the original £20 bet).

Despite a win for South Africa potentially leading to more profit than a win for Mexico, due to the longer odds it carries a much higher risk. So, with the odds not favouring a victory for South Africa, there’s more chance that you lose your stake.

Popular Mexico football bet types

If you’re getting involved with Mexico betting at this summer’s World Cup, then there are a range of ways you can bet, apart from the typical match result predictions. The section below covers some of the most popular markets with bettors, discussing the different bet types we have at Betway.

Match result

As mentioned before, the ‘match result’ market is one of the more widely known markets with bettors. Here, bets are placed on what bettors believe the final result of a game will be, with the option to select either team. The aim is to guess correctly if a certain team will win the match or if it will finish as a draw instead.

To win the group

This market is another that is more familiar to many bettors and involves selecting a team you believe has what it takes to top their group. If you’re able to correctly choose which team will champion their group, then your bet will win!

Mexico’s 2026 World Cup group is Group A, also containing South Africa, South Korea, and Czechia. Can Mexico beat their opponents and win the group in a home tournament?

To win the World Cup

This market represents the biggest feat a nation can achieve at the World Cup – winning the tournament. Here, the aim is simply to pick out who you think will be the strongest team in the tournament and go on to win the whole thing. Despite being a difficult choice as there are many top teams contending, it’s also arguably the most fulfilling bet to get correct.

Do you think the Mexico can utilise home advantage and become champions for the first time in their history? Well, make sure to place your bets and wait until July to see if you’re right!

Goalscorers

If you are confident at picking out goalscorers in Mexico’s World Cup games, then the ‘goalscorers’ market should be one that piques your interest. Simply choose a match that appeals to you and bet on the players you’re confident will score at any point during the game!

Under/over goals

The ‘under/over goals’ market is ideal for bettors who feel they can predict how many goals will be scored in any given match. With this market, if the line for one of Mexico’s matches is 1.5 goals, you must choose if the game will finish with more or fewer goals than this number. Before placing your bets, though, you must remember that your prediction is for goals for both teams!

Accumulator

Also known as an ‘acca’, the ‘accumulator’ market is where you pick multiple bets at once and they’re combined into a singular bet. As they’re now merged together, in order to receive any winnings, every separate part of the bet has to succeed. Though it’s possible to receive more winnings, the odds being longer makes it a much riskier market to participate in than some of the others we have discussed.

Can I bet on Mexico football in-play?

Yes! In-play betting is something we pride ourselves in having at Betway, allowing users to place bets on Mexico matches while they’re still ongoing. This feature lets bettors stay involved with Mexico betting even when watching the action live. So, whether you’re at home on the couch or in a seat at the stadium, Betway lets you place or adjust bets based on the game situation. Regardless of goals, red cards, or injuries, you can always alter your betting strategies mid-match!
