Our infographic chronicles the career of the Irishman, who fights Jose Aldo in a title-unification bout at UFC 194 in Las Vegas on Saturday
At UFC 194, the world’s most exciting fighter has the opportunity to defeat one of the most enduring.
Conor McGregor, the interim featherweight champion, faces Jose Aldo, the featherweight champion who hasn’t lost since 2005, in a title-unification bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight, originally scheduled for July before Aldo withdrew after fracturing a rib, will be one of the UFC’s most lucrative.
A US-record $9m gate is expected, while pay-per-view buys should, at the very least, comfortably exceed a million.
That is because of McGregor, whose skill and power inside the octagon are matched – his detractors would say enhanced – by his charisma and bullishness out of it.
The 27-year-old Irishman has revelled while promoting the fight around the world, raising awareness of not only the contest, but also his status as one of sport’s most-renowned athletes.
On Saturday, though, he can establish himself as one of the best by defeating the 29-year-old Brazilian who has dominated the division for a decade.
Our infographic chronicles the ascent of McGregor – UFC’s crossover superstar.
