Having claimed his first win in over two years last month, the Spring Cup winner is back to his best as he heads to Chester
It’s just a week away from Epsom and the excitement is really starting to build.
Saturday still has some great race cards, however, particularly over at Haydock and Chester.
It kicks off with a few in contention for the 2:00pm 1m Handicap at Haydock.
Having won three on the bounce it is hard to look past Clotilde here.
The three-year-old notched up victories at Chelmsford, Lingfield and Windsor to make it a perfect 2016 so far and that looks like continuing Saturday.
A winner over this distance and with ever-reliable Ryan Moore on board, he’s going to take some beating.
The one to watch out for could be Ice Slice, who also comes into the race searching for a fourth-straight win.
Jockey Ryan Tate has a 100 per cent record on board this five-year-old having rode four out of the horses’ five career wins.
However, this horse appears to struggle at Haydock. On the two previous trips here, he finished 6th and 7th and this could be his downfall come Saturday.
Carnachy has a great chance against Journey
Up next at 2.35pm John Gosden’s star Journey will try to get back to winning ways in the Fillies Group 3 Stakes.
This four-year-old was denied by Simple Verse on Champions Day at Ascot in October but was very disappointing last time out at York.
Despite being heavily favourite, she was well beaten that day and did not give Frankie Dettori the best ride, which is why Saturday’s value looks with Canarchy.
A four-year-old who has been very impressive in her six rides since making her debut a year ago.
Three wins, two seconds and one third means this horse is known to make you profit. She won twice over this distance at Goodwood and looks good value at 6/1.
Gabrial’s Kaka can continue his rejuvenated form in the Betway Handicap
Moving over to Chester and the 2.50pm Betway Handicap promises to be one of the most entertaining of the day.
Godolphin owned Best Of Times is going to take some beating having won four of his last five rides.
However, the four-year-old Colt has not ran for over a year and his last appearance he was a very short favourite beaten at Goodwood.
That lengthy absence could bode well with Richard Fahey’s Gabrial’s Kaka, who seems rejuvenated, having won the Spring Cup and placed in three of his four rides this year.
The six-year-old endured a miserable 2015; in 12 rides he only managed one placed-finish.
That long-awaited win finally came at Chelmsford last month and since then has two credible runner-up finishes at Chester and Newbury.
A course and distance winner at Chester and a favourable stall draw means 6/1 could hold solid value.
John Berry’s Indira looks set to make it four in a row
The 3.25pm 1m 5f handicap is quite a tough one to call but Indira’s form makes it hard to see anything past this Mare.
This five-year-old comes into the race on by far the most convincing form, having won three on the bounce and record in 2016 reads (5341-2111).
Josephine Gordon, a jockey who is receiving many plaudits at moment, will be on board for the seventh consecutive race.
A course winner here earlier this month, it is difficult to look past this 6/1 shot.
Last year’s winner Trendsetter was third in that race Indira won a few weeks ago and did look impressive.
There is every chance John Quinn’s five-year-old could repeat the triumph, having a proven record at Chester, but is still winless since this race last year.
