Monday's best bets include selections from Newton Abbot, Brighton and Newcastle.
After a huge weekend of high-class racing across Britain and Ireland, things are somewhat more sedate on Monday, with five scheduled meetings filling the programme.
Flat racing comes from Brighton and Newcastle (AW), while jumps fare takes precedence at Perth, Newton Abbot and Galway on what is a busy start to the racing week.
We have a trio of selections to consider from across Monday’s action.
Selections
Investment Manager @ SP (Newton Abbot, 15:50)
Dee’s Dream @ SP (Brighton, 16:05)
Chiefman @ SP (Newcastle, 18:00)
Tizzard’s charge worth the Investment
Joe Tizzard has managed to help INVESTMENT MANAGER turn a corner, with the Nathaniel gelding now having won two of his three starts since undergoing a wind operation earlier in the summer.
Both those successes have come here at Newton Abbot, in July over 3m2f (good) and then last month when making light of the drop back in trip to this 2m5f distance.
In both instances, Brendan Powell’s partner was at the head of affairs intermittently throughout and he found generously once push came to shove and he was challenged late in the race.
Three weeks on from the latest of those wins, he’s taken to defy a 5lb rise in the ratings and complete a Newton Abbot hat-trick in this four-runner Ben Oliver Memorial Novices’ Handicap Chase.
Dream success not far away
A maiden she remains but DEE’S DREAM has shown enough in two runs for her new yard to suggest she will shed that tag before long.
She showed promise on the all-weather last winter having finished second at this course in a mile maiden in October.
She began 2023 rated 65 and struggled to make an impact, but her time with Michael Attwater ended with a decent second at Windsor (1m3½f, good to firm) in early July.
She was not able to justify market support on stable bow for these connections at Bath later in that month but has since run with more purpose at Yarmouth over just shy of this trip in a first-time hood.
The headgear is dispensed with now and the daughter of James Garfield has slipped to a mark of 53. There are no stars in this Brighton contest and she should be in the mix for place money, if not more.
Chief to strike for Doyle/Watson team
Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle can team up to land the AGMA EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes on the evening all-weather card at Newcastle with CHIEFMAN.
The Cracksman colt is twice-raced and showed improvement last time when second at Ffos Las (7½f, soft). He was ultimately unable to prevent long odds-on favourite Per Contra from bagging that novice race last month, despite getting 7lb from the previous Chepstow winner, but did manage to pull some 13 lengths of the third horse home.
This won’t be a penalty kick for him, with promising Gleneagles colt Miaswell in opposition from the David O’Meara yard, but with more to come upped to this mile distance for the first time, Chiefman can oblige for Doyle – who boasts a 28 per-cent strike-rate around Gosforth Park so far in 2023.
