The Scuderia looked set for a strong performance in front of a home crowd at Monza after lining up third and fourth on the grid, but an early clash between the pair saw Hamilton drop through the field, while Charles Leclerc then suffered an early exit due to a heavy crash into the barriers.
Hamilton could only recover to finish sixth in a disappointing weekend for the team, but their car has plenty of pace and should perform better in Spain.
The seven-time World Champion looks the one to back this week as Leclerc has not had long to recover from his crash, but both Ferrari drivers got a small insight into the track when they took part in a filming day in July.
They were not allowed to use this year’s racing tyres that day, so the data they gained will be limited, but the drivers will have a slightly better idea of the flow of the circuit than their rivals.

The menacing walls and tight turns in Madrid could lead to misjudgments and accidents that bring out the Safety Car and a slightly chaotic race would be no surprise.
That could lead to some unexpected results and backing an outsider may not be the worst strategy.
One such bet to consider is Racing Bulls’ Arvid Lindblad to finish in the top-six for only the second time in his short F1 career at 17/2 (9.50, +850).
Lindblad has scored points in seven of the last eight races in a remarkably consistent run for the only rookie on this year’s grid, and his best result of sixth was achieved at the most famous street circuit in Monaco.
The British driver is used to quickly adapting to new circuits, but he is not at a disadvantage in terms of track experience for once this week as none of his rivals have raced there either.

Franco Colapinto to finish in the points 11/5
Franco Colapinto rued a missed opportunity in Italy as he was running in fourth-place before a mistake dropped him to 15th. He recovered well to finish ninth and can record another points finish in Spain at 5/4 (2.25, +125).
Alpine showed impressive pace at Monza with Pierre Gasly beating 250/1 (251.0, +2500) odds to take pole position and Colapinto has now finished in the top-10 at three of the last five races.
He was seventh on the similar street track in Miami earlier this season and could benefit again from the recent improvements Alpine have made to their car.
Spanish Grand Prix fastest lap tips
Lando Norris to have the fastest lap 5/1
Lando Norris is second favourite to win in Madrid and is an interesting option in the Fastest Lap market at 7/2 (4.50, +350).
The reigning World Champion showed strong pace in Monza, even though straight-line pace is not a strength of McLaren. The car is much better-suited to tackling high-speed curves and there are plenty of those at the Madring.
Norris set the fastest lap in Miami and also recorded the best lap recently in Belgium, so he should be in the mix again.
Spanish Grand Prix Team total points tips
Red Bull Racing under 13.5 total points 8/11
With Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari all hopeful of strong weekends in Spain, it could be difficult for Red Bull Racing to exceed their team points line of 13.5.
Liam Lawson will be driving alongside Max Verstappen for the third successive race, but he could manage only 14th in Monza after finishing seventh in the Netherlands.
Verstappen was third on Sunday, earning the team a total of 15 points, but he may struggle to match that total this week.
He has shown incredible pace at some street tracks in his career and may take a shine to this one too, but his 2026 car can lack grip at times around high-speed corners and that could hamper his efforts this weekend.
