Mythbusters: 4 favourites to back against on Saturday
We pick out the underdogs from League One, League Two, La Liga and Serie A that could spring a surprise this weekend.
Charlton not to beat Oldham – (15.00)
Oldham’s run of five matches without a win does not, in itself, justify much faith.
But, considering that Charlton’s barren streak is even longer than that of their visitors, this is a tempting price.
Karl Robinson’s side have only won one of their last seven at the Valley, including a draw and defeat to bottom-half sides Blackpool and Gillingham in their last two.
Grimsby not to beat Morecambe – (15.00)
A record of two wins in 10 home games, including a 3-0 pasting by Accrington last time out, means it would be dangerous to back Grimsby to see off Morecambe on Saturday.
The Mariners have failed to score in five matches during that run, and could only beat bottom-side Forest Green by a single goal in their most recent victory.
Morecambe had only lost one of their last four on the road before two single-goal defeats in December and, after beating Yeovil 4-3 in their last outing, can secure a positive result at Blundell Park.
Valencia not to beat Girona – (15.15)
Valencia’s pursuit of Barcelona at the top of La Liga looks to have ended after a run of just one win and three defeats in their last five league matches.
And, after a draw at Las Palmas in the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday evening, any hope that the winter break would revitalise Marcelino’s side appears to be misguided.
All of which means that Girona, who have only lost twice on the road all season, have every chance of picking up at least a point.
Roma not to beat Atalanta – (17.00)
Roma are stumbling into the winter break, and the visit of Atalanta is unlikely to offer any respite.
The hosts, who could only manage a home draw with Sassuolo last time out, are without a win in three, and have only managed a single goal in each of their last four matches at the Stadio Olimpico.
Their visitors’ away form has improved markedly of late, following up a run of three wins out of four in the league – including an impressive 2-0 win at Milan – by knocking Napoli out of the Coppa Italia.
