There are five fixtures coming on the second Saturday of the new Premier League season, and we have picked out a four-fold to follow.
It’s the second weekend of the new Premier League season and there are five games taking place across a busy Saturday.
The action begins at the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City and Tottenham will test their respective revivals, while there are a trio of games in the traditional 3pm slot before Arsenal welcome Leeds to the Emirates at teatime.
We’ve got a Premier League 4-fold for consideration on Saturday that pays at a rewarding 90/1 if successful.
Selections
- Tottenham or Draw at Man City @ 8/5
- Sunderland to beat Burnley @ 12/5
- Antoine Semenyo to score anytime against Wolves @ 9/5
- Arsenal Half Time/Full Time & Gabriel Martinelli 2+ shots on target against Leeds @ 14/5
Four-fold pays @ 90/1
Spurs can maintain positive start
Safe to say last season wasn’t ideal for Man City or Spurs as both struggled in the league. They opened with convincing wins over Wolves and Burney respectively last weekend but this tussle at the Etihad should give more of an idea as to where they are on the road to Premier League recovery.
Tottenham have won four and drawn one of the last eight league meetings between these sides, including a 4-0 demolition at the Etihad last season.
The Lilywhites have two wins and a draw in the last four league meetings here, scoring 12 times, and seem to relish this fixture.
Some more robust evidence is required before believing Man City are back to their best and if Thomas Frank’s side show the discipline and organisation that saw them leading Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 after 85 minutes in the UEFA Super Cup, another positive result in Manchester is within their grasp.
Leg 1: Tottenham or Draw against Man City @ 8/5
Black Cats can land early relegation blow
Burnley were 24 points clear of Sunderland in the Championship last season but early indications suggest it could be much different this season.
The Black Cats opened with a 3-0 win over West Ham, while Scott Parker’s Clarets were on the wrong end of the same scoreline at Spurs.
Burnley have failed to score in the last three meetings of these teams and Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris appears to have got his summer spending just right.
Their midfield trio of Granit Xhaka, Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki excelled against the Hammers and league debutants Chemsdine Talbi and Simon Adingra also caught the eye.
This is a major six-pointer for both clubs, even in the second week of the season, and Sunderland have wind in their sails. They look overpriced.
Leg 2: Sunderland to beat Burnley @ 12/5
Semenyo can capitalise on Wolves fragility
Wolves have lost some key performers over the summer and they were put to the sword by Man City at Molineux last weekend.
Bournemouth meanwhile showed they are still a very good side despite losing much of last season’s first-choice back five as they came from 0-2 down to restore parity against champions Liverpool at Anfield.
Antoine Semenyo excelled with a brace there and can surely fashion more scoring chances against a shaky Wolves backline as he looks to match last season’s personal best tally of 11 league goals.
Leg 3: Antoine Semenyo to score anytime @ 9/5
Martinelli and Arsenal can enjoy familiar form
Arsenal and Leeds were both 1-0 winners in their openers and perhaps both fortunate to be so.
The Gunners are more than capable of kicking on, however, and have won 12 and drawn two of the last 14 meetings with Leeds. Further, Arsenal have led at half-time and won their last four games against Leeds in all competitions.
Winger Gabriel Martinelli seems to relish facing Leeds. He’s already got two goals and two assists in four games against the Yorkshire outfit and looks a decent shout for two more shots on goal in a contest Mikel Arteta’s side should dominate.
Leg 4: Arsenal Half Time/Full Time & Gabriel Martinelli 2+ shots on target against Leeds @ 14/5
