How to read England betting odds
We present England betting odds in fractional terms. This means that each bet type is assigned a fraction to show how likely it is to occur. Smaller fractions (e.g. 1/5) show that an outcome is considered more likely, while ‘less likely’ bets are assigned larger fractions (e.g. 10/1).
You can also determine how much you would win from a successful bet using fractional terms. Simply divide your stake by the number of the right-hand side of the fraction, then multiply the result by the number on the left-hand side.
We’ve provided an example below, but you can also discover more about how fractional odds work – or if you’re struggling to do the maths, use our helpful betting calculator tool.
An example of England football odds
Let’s use an example to show how you can read fractional odds. In this scenario, England’s odds of winning are 3/5 in a match against Croatia, but the chances of a draw are 3/1.
If you place a successful £10 bet on England to win, you would earn £16 in total (10 ÷ 5 = 2, then 2 x 3 = 6, plus the original £10 stake).
The same £10 could earn you more money in the event of a draw, though. A correct bet on this outcome would earn you £40 in total (10 ÷ 1 = 10, then 10 x 3 = 30, plus the original £10 stake).
The difference is that this outcome is less likely, so while the potential returns are higher, there’s a greater risk of losing.
Popular England bet types
There are plenty of ways you can bet on the latest England football odds. Here are just a few of the most popular bet types we offer:
Match result
The most common type of bet in football is predicting the match result. You’ll have the option to place a bet on either team in the match to claim a victory, or if you expect them to tie, you can bet on a draw.
Goalscorers
Think you know which England (or opposition) players will score a goal in your chosen match? The ‘goalscorers’ betting market lets you back a certain player to get the ball in the net before the final whistle blows.
Under/over goals
This type of bet allows you to predict how many goals will be scored in an England match. For example, if the line is set at 2.5 goals, you’ll be able to bet on whether the total number of goals scored is lower or higher. This includes goals scored by both teams!
Accumulator
An accumulator bet, also known as an ‘acca’, combines bets on multiple matches into one package. All of your bets need to come true to win, adding extra risk, but the payouts are potentially huge. For example, you could bet on the results of England’s group stage matches at the World Cup, or put a stake on each of the quarter-finals once the knockout stage hits.
Can I bet on England football in-play?
Yes, you’ll be able to place bets on England during your chosen match. In-play betting is a fun approach that lets you react to major events during the game, such as injuries, penalties, and red cards. This means you can place your bet on the fly or cash out if anything unexpected comes up.
