Euro 2024 tips: Best bets for Netherlands v Turkiye

Warren Ashurst's selections for the last quarter-final of Euro 2024 include a win for the Dutch with goals at both ends.

The last quarter-final at Euro 2024 takes place on Saturday at 8pm (BST), when the Netherlands and Turkiye go head-to-head.

There are 35 places separating the two sides in the FIFA world rankings, with the Dutch strong favourites to progress through to the last four.

Turkiye sprung something of a surprise in the last 16 with a victory over Austria and they will need to find a similar level of performance if they are to challenge Ronald Koeman’s men.

Best bets

Netherlands to win and BTTS /

Memphis Depay to have 2+ shots on target /

Arda Guler to score or assist /

Dutch showing signs of improvement

After finishing third in Group D, there were question marks as to whether the Netherlands were serious contenders to lift the Henri Delaunay Trophy.

Koeman’s squad showed a big improvement though in their last-16 victory over Romania, when they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

That should have boosted confidence and belief in the camp as they prepare to face a Turkish team that has won three of their four games.

There have been three or more goals in every Turkiye match at the tournament to date and there looks likely to be plenty of goalmouth action again. The Netherlands have also been amongst the goals, scoring seven times in their opening four games in Germany.

It’s also worth noting that there have also been plenty of goals in the most recent meetings between the two sides.

The last time they went head-to-head was in World Cup qualifying in 2021, when the Dutch won 6-1 in Amsterdam, while the reverse fixture saw Turkiye claim a 4-2 victory.

Time to shine for unpredictable Depay

Many have questioned the Dutch tactic of using Memphis Depay as their attacking spearhead, having seen him struggle for goals at Atletico Madrid this season.

The former Barcelona and Manchester United man has looked lively so far and although he hasn’t yet scored, he is expected to start against Turkiye.

The extra incentive for Depay to impress is certainly there, with the 30-year-old currently a free agent and seeking a new club.

The Netherlands will look to get him on the ball and the stats suggest he will be looking to get a shot away, recording 14 total attempts across their four matches to date.

Guler holds the key for Turkiye

There is no doubt that Arda Guler will be a name to watch over the coming years, with the Real Madrid star making waves at the Euros.

He’s only made 10 appearances for the Spanish giants since joining from Fenerbahce, but still has six goals to his name.

Guler already has one assist to his name and the 19-year-old will again be the Turkiye corner taker on Saturday – he’s already taken 12 in this tournament.

Vincenzo Montella’s men do provide an aerial threat from set-pieces and Guler’s delivery could be a key factor in Berlin.
