Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a casual weekend wanderer, the continent offers a treasure trove of stunning trails, each with its own unique charm and natural beauty.

Stretching over 2,100 miles from the southern Appalachians of Georgia to the rugged peaks of Maine, the Appalachian Trail is North America’s premier long-distance hiking experience. With over 1 million Instagram hashtags, it’s the most photographed trail in the U.S.
But few hikes offer the adrenaline rush and visual payoff of Angels Landing in Zion National Park. Famous for its narrow spine and dizzying drop-offs, the trail has been hashtagged on Instagram over 320,000 times.
Rising nearly 5,000 feet above Yosemite Valley, Half Dome is a symbol of adventure in the American West. This demanding hike, known for its cable-assisted ascent, has earned over 520,000 Instagram posts.
In fourth place, Emerald Lake Trail in Colorado combines accessibility with alpine views, making it a favourite for day hikers. Meanwhile, Navajo Loop and Queens Garden Trail in Bryce Canyon offers a surreal landscape of red rock hoodoos and has featured in over 60,000 AllTrails images.

Tucked away in the heart of Banff National Park, the Johnston Canyon to Upper Falls trail offers an accessible yet picture-perfect walk through one of Alberta’s most iconic landscapes. It’s no wonder that it has been posted 98,200 times on Instagram and 4,210 times on TikTok.
In second place and spanning more than 550 miles from Niagara to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, the Bruce Trail is Ontario’s crown jewel for long-distance hikers with 169,000 hashtags.
Set against the rugged backdrop of British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, the Joffre Lakes Trail is a short but striking ascent. With 100,000 hashtagged Instagram posts and nearly 3,000 on TikTok, it’s clearly a fan favourite.
The Lake Agnes Trail near Lake Louise and the Garibaldi Lake Trail round out the Canadian top five, each offering a stunning mix of forest, alpine scenery, and reflection-perfect lakes.

Each trail was then given a normalised score out of 100 based on how well it performed in the metrics above.
