The sunny weather is back, and that can only mean one thing - a return to the beach.
Whether you’re staying in the UK or going further afield, at almost every corner of the earth you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach to enjoy your summer in style.
If you’re in the mood for a peaceful beach holiday with great views and fantastic weather, you’ll need to know where in the world has the most beautiful beaches. The team at online slots site Betway have dived into all the data to determine the world’s most beautiful beaches.
The team ranked the top 100 beaches in the world, looking at visitor reviews, average summer temperature, average rainfall during the summer months, amount of litter, and Instagram tags at each location to find out which beaches you should add to your travel bucket list. Each data point per beach was indexed and from that, given a weighted score between 0-100.
Topping the list as the world’s most beautiful beach is Elafonissi Beach. Located in Chania on the picturesque Greek island of Crete, Elafonissi Beach is the epitome of island paradise, with its distinctive pink sand beach and crystal-clear blue waters. Boasting an average daily temperature of 30.4 degrees and no rainfall throughout the month, the Greek gem of Elafonissi is the perfect getaway this summer.
Turquoise Bay in West Australia came second in the list with an average temperature of 34 degrees in January, an estimated 4mm of rainfall, and has been tagged on Instagram over 21,300 times. It’s joined in the top five by two fellow Australian beaches – Four Mile Beach in Fort Douglas, which placed third, and Whitehaven Beach in Whitsundays, which placed fifth in the rankings.
For those holidaymakers who want to stay a little closer to home, one UK gem also featured in the list of most beautiful beaches in the world, with Durdle Door creeping into the top ten at number nine. The beach is best known for its iconic limestone arch and can be found on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

Some of the more popular beach hotspots also made it into the top 10 beaches, with the iconic Venice Beach in Los Angeles placing at number eight. It likely won’t come as much of a surprise that the popular LA tourist hotspot boasts the most Instagram location tags at over 4.1 million while having an average temperature in August of 27.9 degrees and just 1 mm of rainfall.
Commenting on the research, Travel Blogger Hayley Warren at Strangeness & Charm, said: “Whether it’s palm trees and turquoise waters or a rugged volcanic backdrop that you’re looking for, there is a beach for every type of holidaymaker on this list.
“However, it’s easy to see why Elafonissi Beach made the top spot. With its breathtaking pink sand and unique landscape, it’s not only beautiful but offers something a little more than your typical holiday hotspot.
“From Italy to Australia, if you’re planning a holiday this summer then this list has some great suggestions no matter where in the world you are based.”
Betway analysed data from each location to determine average temperature in August or January (depending on location) as well as amount of precipitation, number of Instagram tags and reviews with a positive sentiment on TripAdvisor. The aforementioned data points were then indexed and given a weighted score between 0-100. Data is up to date as of June 2023.
