The second Grand Slam of the season sees the ATP Tour’s elite tackle the clay at the French Open, where world number one Jannik Sinner is bidding to become only the seventh man to complete the coveted career Grand Slam.

Sinner is a four-time Grand Slam champion seeking a first success at Roland Garros and will hope to go one better than when runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz last season.

The Italian’s chances have been boosted with Alcaraz sidelined with a wrist injury and, in the midst of a 29-match winning streak, he looks like a difficult man to stop.

Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion and runner-up at the Australian Open in Melbourne, leads a long list of challengers attempting to halt Sinner’s supremacy.

Second seed Alexander Zverev, two-time runner-up Casper Ruud and former world number one Daniil Medvedev are others that will aim to pounce if Sinner slips up.

Best Bets

  • Casper Ruud to reach the final @ 7/1

  • Flavio Cobolli to win second quarter @ 9/1

  • Arthur Fils to win fourth quarter @ 7/2

Casper Ruud to reach the final @ 7/1

There is every chance that Sinner justifies odds-on favouritism and cruises to a first French Open success, so focusing on markets that are not impacted by the Italian should be the way to go.

Sinner’s 29-match winning streak has featured Masters 1000 titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome and he has dropped only three sets in the process.

There are few that should concern him in the top half of the draw so the bottom half is where the value lies and Ruud looks a nice price to reach the final.

Ruud is in Djokovic’s quarter but the legendary Serb has played in only two tournaments since the Australian Open in February and he suffered a surprise defeat to world number 71 Dino Prizmic in Rome two weeks ago.

Ruud had an underwhelming 2025 but he is slowly returning to his best, having made the quarter-final in Madrid before a runner-up effort to Sinner in Rome.

The Norwegian enjoyed another deep run at the Geneva Open in the build up and he excels on this slower terrain, having been runner-up to Rafael Nadal at the 2022 French Open before playing second fiddle to Djokovic a year later.

Flavio Cobolli to win second quarter @ 9/1

Medvedev heads the betting in the second quarter but the sixth seed is at his most vulnerable on clay, with his nine French Open appearances yielding just one quarter-final berth.

The possibility of an early exit could leave the door ajar for Flavio Cobolli, who showed his potential with a run to the quarter-final of Wimbledon last season.

The Italian is tenth seed and finished runner-up to Ben Shelton on the clay at the BMW Open in Munich in April before a quarter-final in Madrid, where he defeated Medvedev in the last 16.

Cobolli relishes these slower conditions and the 24-year-old, who continues to progress, has a nice early draw to work with.

Arthur Fils to win fourth quarter @ 7/2

Zverev is the one that they all have to beat in the fourth quarter but the world number three has two interesting rivals in the shape of Arthur Fils and Rafael Jodar.

Spanish teenager Jodar is a player of immense potential but Fils has achieved more to date and could be the one to upset Zverev.

The Frenchman won the Barcelona Open in April before bumping into Sinner in the semi-final in Madrid and an early exit in Rome may be a blessing given his busy recent schedule.
