Betway donate £10,000 to Jessie May and pledge even more

Barry Hawkins' maximum break on Wednesday triggered the payment, and we will hand over another £5,000 if there are 100 or more centuries in the tournament.

UK Championship title sponsor Betway has donated £10,000 to World Snooker’s official charity Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home following a 147 at the tournament on Wednesday.

We have now pledged to hand over an extra £5,000 if there are 100 or more centuries made at the tournament in York.

Barry Hawkins made the 147 break during his first round match against Gerard Greene, which triggered the £10,000 donation.

Hawkins said: “I was thrilled to make a 147 at such a big tournament, and delighted when I found out this would mean a fantastic donation to our charity Jessie May.

“I’m sure this money will make a huge difference to the fantastic staff at Jessie May and the children they look after. Thanks to Betway for their generosity.”

Over the first two days there have been 36 centuries, so 64 more are needed to add the extra £5,000. The tournament runs until December 8th.

Since 2015, Betway has donated a total of £68,788 to World Snooker’s charity partners.

Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home, based in Bristol, provides a hospice at home service for terminally ill children, offering care to families in the Bristol area. For more information on Jessie May see www.jessiemay.org.uk.
