Bills to deflate Brady in Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills impressed in the opening week and are set to spring a surprise over current Super Bowl champions New England Patriots

20/21 – Buffalo Bills to beat the New England Patriots

It was a terrific start to life in Buffalo for Rex Ryan last week as his new-look Bills team romped to a comfortable 27-14 win against the highly-fancied Indianapolis Colts.

The defence looked as intimidating as expected, but it was the solid play of quarterback Tyrod Taylor that suprised everyone, outplaying the offseason MVP favourite Andrew Luck.

However, they’ll face a stern test against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots.

Tom Brady put the ‘deflategate’ debacle behind him to lead his team to a 28-21 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on opening night and they will fancy their chances against the Bills.

Buffalo have managed just four wins against the Patriots since the turn of the millennia but do not let that put you off.

This strong defence will likely suffocate Brady’s favourite option Rob Gronkowski and put him under severe pressure.

With the crowd behind them, the Bills will pull off an unlikely victory.

6/5 – Detroit Lions to beat the Minnesota Vikings

The Lions took one to the face last week, scuppering a 21-3 lead to lose 28-33 to the San Diego Chargers.

It would worry some, but playing in 45 degree heat will do strange things to you and there were still flashes of brilliance, especially from rookie running back Ameer Abdullah.

The return of Adrian Peterson to action was not the second coming that Vikings fans would have hoped for – the running back struggled along with his team as they slumped to a 20-3 defeat to a weakened San Francisco 49ers.

They were fancied for a potential playoff push this year, but a poor opening has people worried.

And rightly so. Teddy Bridgewater did not make the leap everyone thought he would and the defence was torched on the ground.

Looking at what Abdullah did last week, if he gets those kind of chances again, he will help lead Detroit to what could be a comfortable victory in Minnesota on Sunday.

5/6 Tennesse Titans to beat the Cleveland Browns

There have not been many more impressive debuts that the one put on by Marcus Mariota, with the former Oregon standout scoring four touchdown passes in the first half of his first NFL start.

The new Titans quarterback elevated his team to a commanding 42-14 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and everyone will now be watching what Mariota can do in Week Two.

They come up against a Cleveland Browns team that still look in disarray.

They started decently against the New York Jets, but crumbled quickly with Johnny Manziel having to come in at quarterback and his three interceptions cost his side the game.

The problem for the Browns is that they don’t have enough to compete on offence and their defence will buckle eventually.

If Mariota continues to show the poise he did last weekend, this should be an easy victory.
