Richard Hoiles: 2 released, 2 retained and 1 added to my tracker

The racing broadcaster reviews an underwhelming week for his tracked horses. but has two new additions who have caught the eye.

You can follow all the horses in Richard’s stable with the Racing TV Tracker.

We had three runners last week, all of whom failed to hit the target.

Alhambra Palace came closest when finishing second as 10-11f at Nottingham where he was set an awful lot to do but looked as if he was still coming with a winning run before hanging left once again close to home. That trait is becoming a worry but there is still a soft-ground handicap to be won with him before the end of the turf season and he is left in.

Outgun was next up finishing fourth at Kempton when upped in trip. It is always tricky with him as he needs them to go a good pace and, while he ran well enough, there was not the previous finishing flourish. A strongly run mile may still suit him best but there was not sufficient excuse in his last two runs for him to stay, so he is released.

Eagle’s Way gave us a throw at the stumps in the Cambridgeshire at a big price and showed up until weakening coming out of the dip. The angle for adding him has been a potential rise in trip and he deserves another chance in calmer waters.

RELEASED HORSES

A couple of our released horses did manage to win in Time Lock, who now is beginning to find her feet and could yet make up into the Group 1 horse I had expected after her defeat at Goodwood, with the Fillies and Mares on Champions Day the target.

Strong Johnson, who was retained for the maximum three runs, won on the next one and may yet have one more win in him before he reaches his mark. Neither are added back but it was still good to see them score.

In other news, Sedgemoor has suffered a setback and so is let go while owner Julie Wood was good enough to let me know that Classic is just waiting for a bit more give in the ground so hopefully will be out again soon.

NEW ADDITIONS

There are two additions this week, the first of which is Oviedo, who ran really well in the Cambridgeshire, doing best of those who raced away from the stands side group. He does seem to prefer decent ground so time may be running out, but he is added until the end of the turf season.

The other is Chorus who caught the eye in no uncertain terms when finishing fifth in a maiden at Newmarket on Saturday. She took a while to work out what was required but made really good progress through the final two furlongs and has a pedigree that cries out for her being even more effective over a longer trip. I expect connections will want to get a win under their belts sooner rather than later for her paddock value but, beyond that, she could make up into nice middle-distance prospect.

SUMMARY:

Released: Outgun, Sedgemoor

Retained: Alhambra Palace, Eagle’s Way

Added: Oviedo, Chorus
