How to read Triumph Hurdle odds

You will often find Triumph Hurdle betting odds in fractional terms. This means each horse is assigned a fraction to show its chances of winning. The smaller the fraction, the more likely a horse is considered to win their race.

You can work out how much you’ll earn from a fractional bet by dividing your stake by the number on the right, then multiplying the result by the number on the left. This shows the total profit you’ll earn from a winning bet, and we’ll also return your original stake.

Example of a Triumph Hurdle bet

To give an example of fractional odds, let’s say that Mange Tout has been given odds of 9/1 to win, while Narciso Has is racing at odds of 2/5.

Mange Tout, 9/1

You can see how much a £10 bet on Mange Tout would earn by dividing your stake by the number on the right (10 ÷ 1 = 10), then multiplying it by the number on the left (10 x 9 = 90). This means you would make a profit of £90 on a winning bet. So, you’d walk away with £100 including your original stake.

Narciso Has, 2/5

By comparison, if you divide your £10 stake by the number on the right of Narciso Has’ fractional odds (10 ÷ 5 = 2), then multiply it by the number on the left (2 x 2 = 4), you’ll see that the same bet would earn you a profit of just £4. So, you’d walk away with £14 overall.

Shorter odds mean that you’ll receive smaller returns, but they’re also deemed more likely to be successful. You can learn more about how to read fractional odds, or simply use our betting calculator for a quick and easy way to check your potential winnings.

Different types of Triumph Hurdle betting

There are many ways to bet on the results of the Triumph Hurdle, so you can place a wager that suits your preferences. Here are some of the most common betting types you’re likely to come across during your play:

Accumulator

Accumulator, or “acca” bets, combine multiple wagers into one package. The twist is that each individual bet must be successful to receive a payout.

This means an accumulator is a high-risk, high-reward way to bet on multiple races, with huge returns possible for low stakes. If you’re interested in a Triumph Hurdle accumulator, try reading up on some Cheltenham Day 4 trends to learn more about the other races you could add to your bet.

Winner

This is the most common type of bet you’ll see at Cheltenham, where bettors attempt to predict the winner of a race. If your chosen horse doesn’t place first, you won’t receive a payout, but there’s plenty of opportunity for huge returns in the case of an upset.

To place

Betting on a horse to place means predicting that they’ll place in the top 2, top 3, or top 4, depending on the size of your selected race.

Each way

An each-way bet features two wagers: one for your horse to place, and another for it to win. This means you could potentially earn even more money from a win, but you’ll also receive a payout if your horse finishes near the front, giving you some insurance in the case of an upset.

Ante-post

Ante-post bets are made far in advance of your chosen race, often featuring much longer odds, as it’s likely that the confirmed competitors won’t even have been announced by the time you place your wager. Since your horse could pull out in the time before the betting markets open, there’s some added risk to this bet type.

Who to bet on in the Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle

It’s important to research the competitors in a race before placing your bet, as this will help you better understand a horse’s chances of winning. Try reading up on some Triumph Hurdle trends before the event, or read our guide on how to choose a racehorse to bet on for more pointers.
