Two former winners are among our best bets for this weekend's event at TPC San Antonio...
Brooks Koepka – {ODDS:151951217:22/1}
Koepka should build on a solid showing at the Masters with a successful weekend in Texas.
The American finished tied in 11th at Augusta, saving his best until last with a three-under-par round of 69 on Sunday.
That followed another decent performance at the WGC Match Play in which he won all three of his group matches before losing to Alex Noren.
Well-rested after missing the RBC Heritage last weekend, he has the game to prevail at TPC San Antonio.
Koepka ranks sixth in driving distance this season – which bodes well for his chances at a course that has often rewarded the long bombers – and 21st in shots gained from putting.
Charley Hoffman – {ODDS:151951176:20/1}
Hoffman was right in contention at the Masters after leading for the first two days, before a 78 on the Sunday cost him a top-20 spot.
The 40-year-old American then missed the cut last week at the RBC Heritage, but should bounce back at an event that he won last year.
Hoffman has a fantastic record in San Antonio, finishing no worse than 13th in each of the last seven years and placing inside the top three on three occasions.
It’s not hard to see him earning a similar result this weekend, considering how well he played for three of the four days at Augusta and the fact that he has two top-fives in his last six starts.
Tony Finau – {ODDS:151951245:33/1}
Finau’s driving length and accuracy gives him a real chance of winning his second PGA Tour event this weekend.
The 27-year-old ranks sixth in shots gained off the tee this season, with only four major winners and impressive prospect Jon Rahm ahead of him.
He is in decent form, with three top-10s in his last nine starts and won the Puerto Rico Open in 2016 – another event that is often heavily affected by wind.
Finau has only played in San Antonio once, finishing well down the leaderboard in 2015.
At this healthy price, though, he is certainly worth backing.
Zach Johnson – {ODDS:151951287:40/1}
Johnson’s form has been patchy this season, with three top-15s from eight starts and a couple of missed cuts.
The 41-year-old did reach the knockout stages of the WGC Match Play last month, however, and has an excellent record at this event, winning it in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009, and finishing sixth in 2014.
Johnson is not a bomber off the tee, but his driving accuracy – which ranks 19th on the PGA Tour – is hugely important around TPC San Antonio, where the trees are to be avoided at all costs.
Also the tour’s 20th-best putter this season, he has a real chance this weekend.
Jhonattan Vegas – {ODDS:151951351:66/1}
Vegas is a good outside bet to win his third PGA Tour event this weekend.
The Venezuelan has twice prevailed against weakened fields before, winning the Bob Hope Classic in 2011 and the Canadian Open last July.
He has not had much success at this event in the past, but is playing well at the moment, with four top-20s in his last six starts.
At this price, he’s worth an each-way punt.
