Most Affordable World Cup Host City for Travelling England Fans

With this year's World Cup set to be one of the most expensive tournaments yet, we reveal the cheapest host city for England fans to travel to.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 doesn’t kick off until June, but it is already making headlines due to the ticket prices.

Ticket prices were revealed back in December with an increase of almost 500 per cent across the board compared to the World Cup in Qatar three years ago, leading to FIFA introducing a ‘supporter entry tier ticket’ priced at £45.

However, with the cheapest ticket for the final being over £3,000, it’s still set to be one of the most expensive tournaments yet.

As a result, the team at Betway have put together a World Cup Travel Index, revealing the cheapest host city for England fans to travel to. Factors such as the flight, hotel, food, and taxi costs were taken into account to determine which destinations are the most affordable.

The Three Lions are playing their group games in Dallas, Boston, and New York, New Jersey, but where do those host cities rank when it comes to affordability?

New York, New Jersey, where England will play their final Group L game against Panama on Saturday, 27 June, is by far the cheapest destination for fans of the Three Lions to catch a glimpse of their team in action during the early stages of the tournament.

With a flight, hotel room for the night, a meal, and a taxi journey costing just £363, compared to £451 in Dallas, and £504 in Boston, tickets for the Panama game could be in high demand.

Nevertheless, football fans from England who are just looking to soak up the atmosphere and watch any World Cup game live may want to plan a trip to Toronto this summer instead.

Toronto is set to host Canada vs Bosnia on Friday, 12 June, before also hosting Germany vs Ivory Coast and England’s group rivals, Ghana vs Panama and Croatia vs Panama.

At £316, the Canadian city is the cheapest host city for English fans by £33, so Toronto could be the place to be for travelling Three Lions supporters wanting to soak up some World Cup action on a budget this summer.

Methodology:

  • The flight prices were taken from Google Flight. They are one-way tickets to each host city, flying from London Heathrow on June 9th. The cheapest flight was selected. The prices were correct as of January 2026.

  • The food price is the average cost of a meal at an inexpensive restaurant, and the taxi price is the average cost per 10km. These prices are all taken from Numbeo.

  • The hotel price is the cheapest hotel room available on the night of the first game in the host city for one adult. All prices were found on Kayak and were correct as of January 2026.
