Premier League Team of the Week: Gameweek 7
Premier League Team of the Week

Gameweek 7 provided another fascinating weekend of action in the Premier League and also saw a change at the top of the table.

The international break provides a breather from the Premier League and a timely one too following another fantastic round of action.

Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over West Ham saw them go top and they maintained that standing following Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea later on Saturday.

Tottenham, Bournemouth and Manchester City also won, but Crystal Palace’s 19-match unbeaten streak ended at Everton.

Wolves remain bottom despite another draw, this time at home to Brighton, while the sides ranked from 14th to 19th all lost.

Here is our team of the week for Gameweek 7.

Goalkeeper – Senne Lammens (Manchester United)

This might be more for what it could mean going forward, but Manchester United’s defence looked so much more comfortable with debutant Senne Lammens behind them.

The Belgian made three saves in the 2-0 win over Sunderland, but his presence alone made a difference, producing three saves, confidently coming for crosses and never being afraid to offer advice to those in front of him.

Defender – Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton)

Jan Paul van Hecke rescued a point for Brighton with his 86th minute header capping an excellent day for the Dutchman.

The 25-year-old also won four of his five ground duels and succeeded with six of his nine attempts at long passes.

Defender – Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth)

After losing his place last season, Marcos Sensei has been restored as a fulcrum of Bournemouth’s defence and was excellent again in Friday’s 3-1 win over Fulham.

Senesi made five clearances and two blocks while also registering seven long passes to help his side take down the Cottagers.

Defender – Marc Cucurella (Chelsea)

A player neutrals love to hate, but one Chelsea fans can only love, Marc Cucurella provided the assist for Estavao’s winner as the Blues beat Liverpool 2-1.

The Spaniard won all five of his ground duels and, with typical honesty, explained why he had such a good day in his post-match interview, when he revealed that he had been given extra permission to attack due to Mohamed Salah’s lack of backtracking.

Midfielder – Mohammed Kudus (Tottenham)

A watershed performance for Tottenham’s summer signing from West Ham? Mohammed Kudus was key to everything Spurs did well in attack in their 2-1 win over Leeds on Saturday.

Kudus slipped in Mathys Tel for his side’s opener before crowning his afternoon with a second-half winner.

Midfielder – Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle)

Potentially the player of the week, Bruno Guimaraes ran the show in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Bruno brilliantly curled home the Magpies’ opener before showing incredible sharpness to dart in front of Elliot Anderson and be fouled for a penalty which Nick Woltemade converted.

Midfielder – Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

Maybe Moises Caicedo is the best of the Premier League’s £100m signings and, having looked set for Liverpool before joining Chelsea in January 2023, the Ecuadorian again showed the Reds what they are missing on Saturday.

Dominating midfield with his well-timed tackles, Caicedo also produced another trademark long-distance strike, with his opener from the edge of the box still rising as it passed Giorgi Mamardashvili on its way into the top corner.

Midfielder – Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

Is Antoine Semeyo currently the best player in the Premier League? That question has been circulating since his starring role in Bournemouth’s victory over Fulham on Friday.

Semenyo’s two goals and an assist for Justin Kluivert mean he now has nine direct goal contributions in seven games this season.

Midfielder – Jack Grealish (Everton)

A surprise omission from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, Jack Grealish looks reborn at Everton and scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

It wasn’t a clean-cut finish, more a block of Daniel Munoz’s clearance, but he had to be there in the six-yard area, a position he may not have felt he had the freedom to be in had he stayed at Manchester City.

Striker – Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Erling Haaland’s ninth-minute winner at Brentford ensured Pep Guardiola became the head coach to reach 250 wins in the fewest games in Premier League history.

Haaland now has nine goals in seven league matches, netting at a rate of every 66 minutes he is on the pitch and he will again be a popular anytime pick when Manchester City host Everton on October 18.

Striker – Nick Woltemade (Newcastle)

Alexander who? Following Isak’s summer transfer saga and Yoane Wissa’s injury since his own delayed arrival, Newcastle look to have found a solution with another of their signings, Nick Woltemade.

The German’s penalty in the win over Forest means he has become only the third Newcastle player, after Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand, to score in their first three home games and he already looks settled at St James’ Park.
