United are up to fourth following their superb win at the Emirates, while at the bottom West Ham and Nottingham Forest both secured important victories to boost their survival hopes.

Here is our team of the week for Gameweek 23.

Goalkeeper – Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)

Emiliano Martinez made some fine saves to help Villa beat Newcastle at St James’ Park.

The Argentina international was particularly active in the first half after Unai Emery’s side had gone in front early on.

Defender – Matty Cash (Aston Villa)

Matty Cash was another recipient of a clean sheet in Villa’s win at Newcastle and the full-back excelled both going forward and defensively when helping to keep the dangerous Magpies out.

Cash ended the game with a 95.7% pass completion rate, weighed in with one shot, and generally continued his Mr Dependable role for the top-three Villans.

Defender – James Hill (Bournemouth)

Bournemouth were late winners over Liverpool and James Hill was one of several stand-out performers for the Cherries.

He made seven clearances, got an assist with a delightful through ball for Alex Jimenez to score and was responsible for the injury-time long throw which led to his side’s crucial third goal.

Defender – Harry Maguire (Manchester United)

Michael Carrick’s excellent start to life as United interim boss continued with the Red Devils’ stunning 3-2 win at Arsenal.

Harry Maguire was inspirational at the back, winning five out of five defensive duels and holding firm as the Gunners pushed for goals in the second half.

Defender – Neco Williams (Nottingham Forest)

Forest sit five points clear of the relegation zone after an impressive 2-0 win at Brentford.

They had to soak up plenty of pressure from the Bees and Neco Williams was instrumental as Sean Dyche’s side kept a clean sheet.

Midfielder – Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United)

Patrick Dorgu blasted in another stunning goal for the Red Devils to help secure United’s win at the Emirates.

The Danish midfielder is one of several players who appear to have benefited from a more attacking approach under new boss Carrick and he can play a big part over the rest of the season as his side chase a top-four finish.

Midfielder – Mateus Fernandes (West Ham)

Mateus Fernandes’ wonder strike made it 3-0 before half-time for West Ham as they swamped Sunderland at the London Stadium on Saturday.

His goal was the stand-out moment in a fine all-round display from the Portuguese midfielder, who also hit the woodwork among three attempts, while he ended the game with a near-perfect 90% pass completion rate.

Midfielder – Harry Wilson (Fulham)

Harry Wilson is having a dream season. The Wales international was the hero for Fulham once again when he scored an injury-time winner against Brighton to take his goal tally for the season up to nine in all competitions.

If the 28-year-old, who has also contributed with five assists for the Cottagers this term, maintains his stunning form, he will surely find himself in team of the season XIs, never mind regularly being included in team of the week rundowns.
