Premier League Team of the Week: Gameweek 4

Gameweek 4 is in the books in the Premier League and we have picked out a team of the week following some more outstanding displays.

Gameweek 4 is in the books in the Premier League and only Liverpool have enjoyed a perfect start following their 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

After the first international break of the season, there were a few standout performances and we have picked out the team of the week for Gameweek 4.

Goalkeeper – Robin Roefs (Sunderland)

Sunderland picked up their seventh point of the season with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

While it was a team effort, goalkeeper Robin Roefs was in inspired form as he made six saves to keep the Eagles attack at bay and he was named player of the match by many in attendance.

Defender – Micky van de Ven (Tottenham)

Tottenham secured a resounding 3-0 win over rivals West Ham on Saturday and Micky Van de Ven got himself on the scoresheet.

The centre-back found the bottom corner with a smart finish and he has made a bright start under new Spurs boss Thomas Frank.

Defender – Cristian Romero (Tottenham)

Van de Ven’s team-mate Cristian Romero also makes the shortlist after grabbing an assist on Saturday.

The Argentinian also had a goal ruled out after an infringement in the build-up and Spurs’ centre-back partnership looked solid.

Defender – Joachim Andersen (Fulham)

Fulham were fortunate to beat Leeds United 1-0 at the weekend, but they kept a clean sheet in part thanks to the efforts of Joachim Andersen.

The Denmark international completed the most passes in the match (89), registered 12 defensive contributions, with eight of them clearances.

Andersen was in the way of any Leeds attack and he was instrumental in their success.

Defender – Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool)

With Marc Guehi’s failed move to Liverpool hitting the headlines earlier this month, Reds defender Konate would have been forgiven for letting the outside noise affect him.

However, he was in fine form at Turf Moor on Sunday as he won six of his seven ground duels and collected eight defensive contributions as the Reds won 1-0.

Konate nearly scored at the other end and was reliable at the back as the Reds did just enough to edge the win.

Midfielder – Martin Zubimendi (Arsenal)

Arsenal summer signing Martin Zubimendi was the player of the week in the Premier League as he scored two goals in a sublime display at home.

The Gunners beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 and Zubimendi was able to score a volley and a header to help his team secure the win.

Midfielder – Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo continued his superb start to the new season with a man-of-the-match performance against Brighton in his team’s 2-1 success.

Semenyo scored from the penalty spot and also picked up an assist and he is proving to be the main man in the Cherries attack this season.

Midfielder – Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been at the heart of everything they have done this season and his 17 defensive contributions should have been enough to earn praise.

The Ecuadorian then went and scored a stunning effort in the 2-2 draw with Brentford and he continues to impress under manager Enzo Maresca.

Midfielder – Lucas Bergvall (Tottenham)

The third and final Tottenham player to make the shortlist is Lucas Bergvall, in a breakout game for the youngster.

Bergvall scored one goal and grabbed an assist in Spurs’ rout of West Ham at the London Stadium.

Striker – Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

City striker Erling Haaland took his tally for the season to five goals after grabbing a brace against Manchester United on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s team ran out 3-0 winners at the Etihad Stadium and he was once again the main man in the Citizens attack.

Haaland scored his two goals from five shots against the Red Devils, while he also hit the woodwork with another effort.

Striker – Nick Woltemade (Newcastle United)

Newcastle United’s club record signing Nick Woltemade made a statement on Saturday as he started to repay the faith shown in him by the Magpies board.

Woltemade was signed for £69million from Stuttgart in August and he scored on his debut for the club after the recent international break.

The German scored a header in his team’s 1-0 win over Wolves to ease Newcastle’s fears after a slow start to the season in front of goal and also start to make up for the exit of Alexander Isak.
