Premier League tips: Best bets for Man City v Arsenal

Two of the top three in the Premier League meet on Sunday, with Arsenal tipped to avoid defeat at the Etihad for the first time since 2016.

The Premier League returns this weekend and the games don’t come any bigger than Manchester City’s clash with Arsenal.

There was just a point separating the league-leading Gunners and Man City in third going into this weekend’s top-flight fixtures and, while Liverpool still have a major part to play in the title race, Sunday’s clash is likely to have a huge bearing on the destination of the Premier League trophy.

City went into the international break following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle, while Arsenal haven’t played since then beat Porto on penalties in the Champions League nearly three weeks ago.

The Citizens are / to collect a huge three points and move above Arsenal in the table, while Mikel Arteta’s men are / chances and the draw is available at / .

Best bets

Double chance: Arsenal/draw /

Under 2.5 goals /

Gunners can mount resolute defence

Arsenal are one point ahead of Man City in the Premier League table and, with the Gunners also enjoying an 11-goal superior goal difference, the gap is effectively two points.

Clearly, Arteta will be targeting three points in a bid to pull away at the top, but a trip to the Etihad is a dangerous fixture and a circumspect approach is to be expected.

A draw would be a good result for Arsenal given the difficulty of the task and the league positions, and it looks achievable when you consider that the north Londoners have won eight Premier League games on the bounce.

Arsenal’s advantage means that the Gunners won’t be forced to chase the game in a bid to make up ground on City and that has to be a major boost to the chances of Arteta’s side achieving a positive result.

Of course, Man City have the quality to hurt any opposition, but Arsenal can take confidence from a 1-0 win over the Citizens at the Emirates earlier in the campaign and Pep Guardiola’s side have looked vulnerable on occasions this season.

City have lost to Aston Villa, Wolves and Arsenal in the Premier League this term. More recently the Manchester side were outplayed in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, failed to beat Chelsea at the Etihad and struggled to narrow 1-0 wins over Bournemouth and Brentford.

First-choice keeper Ederson is out of Sunday’s contest, while defenders John Stones and Manuel Akanji have joined the Brazilian on the sidelines and they look like unsettling absences.

Arsenal and the draw can be backed at / on the double chance market and that looks a play.

Title tussle could be a cagey affair

Arsenal have the meanest defence in the Premier League, the Gunners having conceded only 24 goals in 28 top-flight matches this term.

Arteta has the tactical acumen to shut down City, making it difficult for the Citizens to find their stride and the Gunners limited City to just a single shot on target at the Emirates earlier in the campaign.

City have home advantage this time around, but that doesn’t mean that Gurdiola’s men will cut through the visitors’ defence at will.

Five of the Citizens’ last six Premier League games have gone under 2.5 goals and this huge title tussle could well follow suit.
