EFL football tips for Saturday 22 09 18

Leeds to beat Birmingham

Leeds returned to form in midweek after a three-match winless run, hammering Preston 3-0 at Elland Road despite missing seven first-team players.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have dropped just two points in four home games in the league and, while questions remain over the sustainability of their high-energy style, they remain top of the Championship.

Birmingham’s wait for their first win of the season in all competitions is likely to be extended to 10 games on an afternoon where they will see little of the ball.

Nottingham Forest to beat Rotherham

It’s early days but Rotherham – who I’ve successfully tipped to lose three times out of three when playing away – are becoming a Don’t Speculate favourite.

The Millers have picked up just two points in their last 29 away games in the Championship and have lost all five of their matches away from home this season.

Nottingham Forest are on a nine-match unbeaten run at the City Ground and made it two wins from two at home with the 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

Doncaster to beat Bradford City

Bradford lost their sixth league game in seven as they went down 2-0 at home to Charlton last weekend.

The Bantams have picked up just six points from their opening eight matches this term, but shot data indicates they have been fortunate to earn that many.

Doncaster won 4-1 away to fast starters Walsall last weekend and are unbeaten in their last five league games – a sequence that includes matches against the top two.

Peterborough to beat Gillingham

Peterborough lost their first league game of the season last weekend, but have still won six out of eight and dropped just four points so far in League One.

Posh are the equal-top scorers in the EFL, having netted 20 goals in just eight league games.

They should comfortably beat a Gillingham side that lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions and have conceded three or more in three of their last six.

Portsmouth to beat Wycombe

League One leaders Portsmouth maintained their unbeaten start to the season last weekend, inflicting Peterborough’s first defeat of the season.

Pompey are one of just two sides in the entire EFL yet to lose and have won three of their last four league games at Fratton Park.

Wycombe have won just one of their eight league games so far, against fourth-bottom Bradford.
