EFL football tips for Saturday 15 09 18

Brentford to beat Wigan

Brentford’s 2-1 win at home to Nottingham Forest last time out was their fourth victory in four league games at Griffin Park.

The Bees have been the Championship’s most effective side based on shot data, and welcome back top scorer Neal Maupay after a three-match ban.

Wigan have lost three of their four away games in all competitions this season, most recently against third-bottom QPR.

Derby to beat Rotherham

Rotherham lost for the fourth time in six matches before the international break, going down 1-0 away to Wigan.

The Millers’ only two victories in the Championship this season have come against teams below them, while they’ve been beaten by an aggregate score of 7-1 in their two previous matches against top-six sides.

Derby are fourth in the early table after winning four straight games in all competitions, so I’m happy to back them at evens.

Blackpool to beat Plymouth

Blackpool battled back from two goals down with six minutes to go to beat Bradford 3-2 at the weekend and extend their unbeaten run to five league matches.

Despite only winning two games in that sequence, the Tangerines are creating chances and have the second-best xG in League One so far.

They could run riot against a Plymouth side that have conceded eight goals in their last three league games and earned just three points from seven winless matches this season.

Crawley to beat Morecambe

Morecambe have lost four straight matches in all competitions and eight out of nine so far this season.

That includes five away defeats out of five for the Shrimps, who have conceded three or more on four separate occasions on the road.

Crawley, who announced new manager Gabriele Cioffi in midweek, inflicted league leaders Lincoln’s first defeat of the season last time out and have now won three of their last four matches in all competitions.

Lincoln to beat Macclesfield

Lincoln remained top of League Two despite their first defeat of the season last weekend, but should get back to winning ways on Saturday.

The Imps had dropped just two points in six matches prior to that loss against Crawley, including a 3-1 victory over bottom side Macclesfield.

They should have little trouble against second-bottom Macclesfield, who haven’t won since returning to the Football League and have earned just two points in seven matches.
