Championship: Five Lower League Crackers This Weekend

Looking for a decent accumulator this weekend? These five look like home bankers.

Rams To Ground The Owls

Derby may have dropped points in a bizarre game on Tuesday night, but they should bounce back with victory over Sheffield Wednesday who are woefully blunt in front of goal. The Rams, unexpectedly, had to come from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Rotherham mid-week, but at home to another South Yorkshire side should be an easier afternoon. The Owls are solid at the back but are without a win in six, scoring just three goals in that time. They are the lowest scorers in the division (which makes it shocking that they are ninth in the table) but they simply do not have enough to threaten a quality side like Derby and the Rams look really decent value at 3/5.

Blades Will Chop Down Coventry

Sheffield United look to have converted their impressive cup form into some consistency in the league as three consecutive wins, including over table-toppers Bristol City, has taken them into the League One play-off spots. Matt Done has made a huge impact since arriving in January, whilst Jamie Murphy is also amongst the goals, a combination that has made them far more potent of late. Coventry are not looking so good and without a win in six they are just one point off the drop zone. Only Yeovil have scored fewer goals than them this campaign and travelling to Bramall Lane will be too much for them.

Bury Can Shake Off Hartlepool

It has been a disastrous season for Hartlepool who look set to drop out of the Football League unless a miraculous turnaround occurs. There have been signs of improvement as they have won three of their last seven League Two fixtures, but it is probably too little too late as they remain seven points from safety. Bury are in the hunt for promotion and just need a little more consistency to make the push for the automatic places. They won comfortably at Hartlepool earlier in the season and there is little reason to believe they will not do so now with home advantage.

Pirates Set To Plunder Another Win

It is fair to say that Bristol Rovers have adapted to life in the Conference; their 16-game unbeaten streak is perfect illustration of that, as is the fact they have conceded the least goals in the division. They face Altrincham on Saturday who are no slouches, with 13 wins under their belt this season, but they are not in the same class as Rovers at the minute. The Bristolians at home are worth backing against anyone at this stage and 15th-placed Altrincham are no exceptions.

Telford In Trouble Again

It is not going well for Telford who are rock bottom of the Conference, nine points from safety and with the worst defence in the league. Conceding more than twice per game, on average, is a recipe for disaster; they may have scored as many goals as seventh-placed Halifax, but their defence is why they are 17 places below them in the table. Forest Green are in contrasting mood, with five wins and two draws from their last seven league contests. The play-offs is now well within their grasp and they are unlikely to slip up at home to the basement club on Saturday.
