Champions League tips: An 18/1 four-fold for Wednesday’s fixtures
Champions League Wednesday tips

The final round of league phase games takes place in the Champions League on Wednesday with 18 games all kicking off at 8pm.

There are crucial fixtures across the continent with plenty still at stake for the vast majority of teams involved.

Arsenal and Bayern Munich are the only teams who have guaranteed a spot in the last-16, the rest of top 15 are all assured of at least a play-off spot and only four teams have been mathematically eliminated.

We have put together an accumulator for Wednesday’s matches which pays at almost 18/1.

Wednesday’s Champions League Tips

  • Athletic Bilbao to beat Sporting Lisbon @ 6/5

  • Napoli vs Chelsea – Both teams to scorer @ 4/6

  • Bayer Leverkusen -1 handicap vs Villarreal @ 11/8

  • Atalanta to beat Union SG @ 23/20

    Pays 18/1

Only a win will do for Bilbao

La Liga’s Athletic Bilbao entertain Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon in an Iberian derby and the hosts are the team in greater need of the points.

Bilbao are clinging on to a top-24 spot and Sporting can sneak into the top eight – but their road form has been poor in Europe.

The Lisbon outfit have just one point to show from their three trips, while Bilbao showed their desire to progress by winning at Atalanta in the last batch of Champions League games.

Bilbao held PSG to a goalless draw in their last European home game and can make the most of their San Mames advantage by seeing off Sporting.

Leg 1: Athletic Bilbao to beat Sporting Lisbon @ 6/5

Go for goals at both ends in Naples

Chelsea head to Napoli knowing a victory would seal a top-eight finish, while only a win will do for the hosts if they are to avoid the ignominy of an early exit.

Given how much is at stake for both sides, this should be occasions where both teams throw a bit of caution to the wind and goals at both ends looks likely.

Chelsea have scored and conceded in seven consecutive away games across all competitions and they are facing a Napoli side who have scored in 79% of their home games this season.

Leg 2: Napoli vs Chelsea – Both teams to scorer @ 4/6

Leverkusen can secure play-off berth

Villarreal head to Bayer Leverkusen having already been eliminated, while their German hosts know a win will see them qualify for a play-off spot.

This is a dead-rubber for the Spanish side and there is a chance they may rest a few players on Wednesday.

Even if Villarreal name their best side they could still lose by more than one goal – having lost all three of their European road games so far without scoring.

Leg 3: Bayer Leverkusen -1 handicap vs Villarreal @ 11/8

Top eight the target for La Dea

Atalanta could sneak into the top eight with a win at Union SG and they should be able to at least fulfil their end of the bargain, even if results elsewhere don’t go their way.

La Dea have won their last two European trips – to Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt – and Union SG have fallen short when taking on teams from Europe’s top leagues.

The Belgian club have lost at home to Newcastle, Inter Milan and Marseille in the league phase and Atalanta have enough quality to avoid an upset at Lotto Park.
