Carolina just lost two primary cornerbacks, Mike Jackson (groin) and Jaycee Horn (quadriceps), both of whom went on IR.
On the Carolina side, QB Bryce Young is putting up big yardage (939 yards, with seven TD passes).
Unfortunately for Young, the team around him is battered, led by receiver Jalen Coker, who leads the team in receiving (222 yards) but is listed as questionable for tomorrow with a quad injury.
Matchups to focus on from a betting perspective is Gibbs versus Carolina’s run defence. Gibbs is Detroit’s premier weapon on offence, and Carolina has the worst yards-per-game run defence in the NFL (193.3 yards per game).
That depleted Carolina secondary faces Goff, St. Brown, and WR Jameson Williams, led by St. Brown’s 5 TDs.
Another key matchup is the Detroit pass rush versus Carolina’s offensive line. The Lions are second in the NFL with 12 sacks.

In NFL betting at Betway, the Lions are -210 moneyline favourites, with the Panthers at +165. Detroit is also favoured by 3.5 points on the road (-115), while Carolina is +3.5 (-105). The total is set at 50.5, with the over and the under priced at -110.

The noteworthy trend for the Lions is their road dominance under coach Dan Campbell. Detroit is 14-3 straight up and 13-4 ATS as a regular-season road favourite since 2021.
According to Sports Illustrated, the Panthers have covered 12 consecutive games following a straight-up loss, going back to 2024. The Panthers lost to the Browns last week 21-18.

In my NFL picks, I’m laying the Lions -3.5 (-115) rather than taking the Detroit moneyline at -210.
Gibbs up against that vulnerable Carolina run defence is the reason for that – plus don’t forget the Panthers have a depleted secondary against the Goff-led offence.
The Lions will attack the Panthers however they try to defend.
I also like the Over 50.5 (-110), since Detroit is averaging 31.0 points per game and the Panthers are averaging 29.7. Carolina is also seventh in total offence at 392.7 yards per game.
Detroit has allowed 351 yards and six touchdowns to tight ends through three games.
That’s a risk in taking the Over – guard Damian Lewis is out for the Panthers, OT Monroe Freeling is questionable with a concussion, and Detroit has those 12 sacks, second most in the NFL, so Carolina might struggle to run up points.
I’m also taking Lions’ Over 27.5 total points at -110. Detroit has scored 31 points in all three of their games so far.
The only that worries me about going with the game and Lions’ total is weather. The forecast for tomorrow night is 20 degree C and rain.
On the player prop side, I’m sticking with Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs 90+ rushing yards at -160 (100+ yards is -110). Gibbs is averaging over 100 yards per game and just had a multi-score night against the Jets.
