Our tipster Chad Yeomans provides his four best horse racing tips on day one of the Grand National Festival at Aintree.
14:20 – ADAGIO (win) {ODDS:711467648:17/10}
I’ve been impressed visually by Monmiral this season, but have been very underwhelmed by the pace of his races. They have been very slow, including one just under 20 seconds slower than average in a Grade 2 on good-to-soft ground at Doncaster.
For that reason, I think he’ll be put in his place by ADAGIO, who ran very well in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham last time out. He’s improved all season, has run in good races and will be battle-hardened for this assignment.
14:50 – REAL STEEL (each-way) {ODDS:711467676:16/1}
REAL STEEL is a smart horse on his day, who has perhaps taken time to adjust to the training routine at his new yard. His trainer is a master at getting them right for the big day, though, and I expect the Betway Bowl could be tailor-made for him.
If you watch his 2020 Gold Cup run, he was tanking along and only got caught out by the hill. If he runs to that form again, he’ll have a good chance in this wide-open race.
16:05 – DASHING PERK (each-way) {ODDS:711467686:11/1}
DASHING PERK is a lightly-raced horse who has gone very well at Aintree on both of his starts at the course.
He’s got some very smart form in the book, but the fact he’s not been seen too many times in his career suggests he’s been difficult to get right.
He ran OK at Wincanton in March but that would have put him spot-on for this, and the eye-catching booking of Sam Waley-Cohen is a huge plus, too.
17:15 – STEP TO THE TOP (each-way) {ODDS:711467733:50/1}
There aren’t many horses in this race rated higher than STEP TO THE TOP. Although she is yet to win in her career, she has posted some very good times on the clock and has some very good form in the book.
She was bang there until the final stretch of the hill at Sandown Park took its toll on her and she’ll be much more suited to the flat track at Aintree.
She’s having her first start for Laura Morgan, who is a very shrewd trainer.
With Betway paying four places, she’s much too big at this price.
