Our guide will tell you everything you need to know about a Lucky 15 bet, explained in simple terms. Read on to learn how to place a Lucky 15 bet with Betway.
A common horse racing term that often crops up is ‘Lucky 15’ (though, it’s also used across other sports), which is a popular type of multiple bet allowing you to group a broad range of different predictions into one handy accumulator.
Our guide will teach you all you need to know about this type of bet, from how to work out a Lucky 15 bet to placing one yourself.
What is a Lucky 15 bet?
A Lucky 15 is a type of multiple bet; meaning you’re placing several bets at once. In the case of a Lucky 15, you’ll be placing 15 total bets:
1 four-fold accumulator
4 trebles
6 doubles
4 singles
How does a Lucky 15 bet work?
A Lucky 15 adds a form of insurance within your bet, as just one correct selection will see a return even if your other selections are incorrect. That said, the more picks that you get right, the more money you win.
Here’s an example of a Lucky 15 bet:
Horse A To Win the 13:50
Horse B To Win the 14:30
Horse C To Win the 15:10
Horse D To Win the 15:50
Your payout will vary depending on how many bets you’ve predicted the correct outcome for. For example, one winning horse will pay its corresponding single bet, while two winning horses will pay their single bets as well as the corresponding double, and so on.
The ideal outcome of a Lucky 15 is correctly predicting the winner of all four races. This provides you with a return on all four singles, all six doubles, all four trebles, and the four-fold accumulator – often resulting in a significant win.
How much does a Lucky 15 bet cost?
Each bet within the Lucky 15 is treated separately, meaning each bet incurs its own cost. For example, a £1 Lucky 15 bet would cost a total of £15, as each of the 15 bets within the Lucky 15 is considered.
How does a Lucky 15 bet work in horse racing?
Lucky 15 bets are a common choice of multiple bet in horse racing betting.
Simply select the four horses that you fancy across four different races, with only one horse needing to win to see a return. The more horses that win (alongside the odds that the horses were priced at), the more you’ll win.
How does a Lucky 15 bet work in football?
Although they’re most associated with horse racing, you can also create a Lucky 15 bet using football markets. The process of placing a Lucky 15 bet is the same across all markets: simply make four selections from four different matches, and you’ll still receive a payout if only one of your selections wins.
The more selections that win (alongside the odds that the selections were priced at), the more you’ll win. Lucky 15 football bets aren’t exclusive to winner markets, either; whether it be Win/Draw/Win, Both Teams To Score (BTTS), or another market, any selection can be added to your Lucky 15.
In fact, you can often combine markets, too, such as:
Win/Draw/Win: West Ham to beat Chelsea (7/2)
Over 1.5 goals: Arsenal to score +1.5 goals vs Leeds United (19/10)
BTTS: Brentford and Aston Villa both to score (8/13)
Handicap: Tottenham to beat Manchester City with a +2 handicap (13/20)
How to calculate a Lucky 15 bet
Wondering how to work out a lucky 15 bet? Consider the following £1 per line (£15 altogether) bet:
Horse A To Win the 13:50 @ 10/1
Horse B To Win the 14:30 @ 8/1
Horse C To Win the 15:10 @ 3/1
Horse D To Win the 15:50 @ 4/1
The different payouts for results would be as follows:
One winner: If Horse A wins, for example, the payout would be £11.
Two winners: If Horse A and Horse B win, then two singles and one double would win, giving you a payout of £119.
Three winners: If Horses A, B, and C all win their races, then you’d win on three singles, three doubles, and a treble. The payout for this example would be £599.
All horses win: If all four horses win their races, the whole Lucky 15 would pay £3,599.

What is the difference between a Lucky 15 bet and a Yankee bet?
Lucky 15 and Yankees are both multiple bets, with very similar structures. The crucial difference between the two is that a Yankee bet does not include four singles within the bet. This means that, for a Yankee to provide a return, two or more of your selections would need to win their chosen events.
The singles included in a Lucky 15 can act as a form of insurance, making sure you get a return so long as you can predict at least one of your chosen winners correctly. However, because you’re placing more bets than in a Yankee, you’ll be paying more for a Lucky 15 bet by comparison.
What happens to a Lucky 15 with a non-runner?
If a Lucky 15 includes a non-runner, all 15 bets still stand. This means that all your outcomes would miss one horse from their total winnings:
One non-runner and a winner: You would earn the value of the single winner, rather than the double bet.
One non-runner and two winners: You would earn two single bets and a double from the winners, but not the treble formed by all three horses.
One non-runner and three winners: Instead of receiving the payout of a four-fold accumulator, you’d be paid the value of the winning treble and all smaller payouts.
Why consider a Lucky 15 bet
A Lucky 15 bet is a great way to cover your bases across multiple races, so you’re not going all in on one winner. It can provide a level of insurance to your multiple, as you’ll still receive a payout from just one win, whereas other options, such as a Yankee bet, require two wins for a return.
You can also win more with a Lucky 15 than you would if you placed four single bets, which adds a potential for bigger earnings if you get multiple bets correct.
How to place a Lucky 15 bet
Placing a Lucky 15 bet is easy with Betway: simply choose your preferred races or matches, select your markets and bets, and then select ‘Lucky 15’ on your betslip.
We’ll then show you the potential earnings from a win. Once you’re happy with your stake, click ‘Place bet’ and keep an eye on the results of your races or matches.
Can I place an each-way Lucky 15?
Yes, all you need to do is click the ‘E/W’ box next to Lucky 15 on your betslip. When placing an each-way Lucky 15, the number of bets you are placing is doubled from 15 to 30. In effect, you are backing all of them twice – once for all of them to win, and again for all of them to place.
Alternatively, you may want to back some of your horses ‘To Win’ and others to place. In that instance, tick the ‘E/W’ box next to the horse you’re backing to place in your betslip. The number of bets that will be in your Lucky 15 will then remain at 15.
